Dead on Arrival [Posted on 2008-04-14]
Came new in box but was dead on arrival.
Randomly shuts off and/or counter freezes up during use.
A measuring wheel is not all that complicated a thing mechanically but I would generally say this was poorly constructed. At only $15 it wasn't worth my trouble to bother with a return.

Poor Quality Control [Posted on 2008-04-19]
This product was poorly manufactured. I started using this item outside and it worked fine in the shade but when it hit sunlight it started acting up. I figured this was a total loss and decided to see how it worked by tearing it apart. After opening it up I discovered it used a photo sensor to count slates in an internal wheel connected to the main wheel. I saw that the inside of the case was painted black, but not entirely. I put it back together and covered it in black tape to block sunlight from bleeding through the yellow plastic. After testing I started using it again with little to no problems.

Overall rating is 1 star because the item works well for me now but did not out of the box. It should work fine indoors out of direct sunlight.

Digital Measuring Wheel [Posted on 2008-04-27]
The first measuring wheel was defective; however, it was promptly replaced, no questioins asked. This inexpensive wheel is on the "weak" side; when it hits a bump it goes to Zero. I would recommend to purchase something a bit more expensive and therefore, more reliable.
I will give top rating to the merchant, eToolcity.
