An Excellent Saw, Considering the Price [Posted on 2008-03-16]
This is an excellent band-saw for small jobs, a real bargain. It is well-constructed, but limited in power. I am using is to cut 1/4" thick pieces of wood, plastic and aluminum, for which it is more than adequate.

Not Bad For The Price But It's Not That Great Either [Posted on 2008-03-27]
I bought this 9" saw to replace my first saw, one made by Kawasaki that went belly up after about eight months of on and off usage.

This saw is of similar design, but the casing is plastic rather than the solid metal casing the Kawasaki saw had. Not necessarily cheap plastic, but plastic nonetheless.

When I got the saw, I had somewhat of a difficult time putting it together as the knob on the side that controls the tilting of the table is rather large; screwing it on is made intensely difficult by the table itself. What I had to do was partially unscrew the table from its mounting bracket, then screw the knob on, and then finally screw the table back down-- a somewhat troublesome process as the screw holes are located in tight spaces.

Less than two weeks of moderate use of the band saw, the blade got jammed, then when I tried to fix or replace it, I had a major problem: the wheels were frozen somehow and wouldn't move despite turning the knob fully in each direction. The saw became useless.

From personal experience I would have to say that the 9" band saws simply do not hold up too well to more than light occasional use; if you are a hobbyist, that might be okay. But if you are a craftsman and really need a band saw that will last, save all of your nickels and buy a good standard sized 10" or 14" band saw that will last after even heavy use. Stay away from this piece of junk. I initially gave it four stars to begin with, but it really deserves only one.
