Customer Reviews:

Very good tool [Posted on 2007-12-17]
Does the job nicely. The battery failed after a couple years, though. I found that I could get a replacement battery for around $50, so I just bought another new edger/trimmer instead.

YardStick bad buy [Posted on 2008-01-15]
Do not recommend purchase of the YardStick 24-volt because:

1. It is too heavy - much too heavy for my wife.
2. Normally after using about 5 minutes the line breaks and retreats into the coil housing requiring disassembly - it takes about 15 minutes to fix.
3. Battery lasted only one year - very expensive to replace so I didn't

Big disappointment

Great trimmer! [Posted on 2008-01-21]
Really powerful trimmer for grass. I have St. Augustine grass so I was concerned that it would not be strong enough since it was battery powered. I was pleasantly suprised - it trimmed the grass like butter. The only hassle was the string kept wearing out and breaking - not too surpised since I edge around cement. Went through the string pretty fast. I opted to not buy another spool because it would have the same string. Instead I used heavy duty "Extreme Trimmer Line" I got from HomeDepot (sure they have it as Lowe's too). It was easy to wrap around the old spool and it is very durable.

A Plastic Piece of Junk [Posted on 2008-03-30]
I bought this item two years ago to use for my VERY, VERY small yard. During the second use, I propped it against a fence to move some items in my yard and it fell over, breaking the plastic holding handle. Some popsicle sticks and LOTS of duct tape later, it was somewhat usable again.

Later the first year, another plastic part broke (I can't really explain what it is but it is down by the trimmer line). MORE duct tape and it was stumbling along once again.

Then, early the second year, the plastic bump-feed part also broke so now the line has to be manually pulled out (and that is a big pain).

I do not recommend this trimmer at all - it is 95% plastic and lousy plastic at that. I'm tossing it this year and looking for a replacement that is more metal and less cheap plastic.

First-class product - but read the instructions! [Posted on 2008-05-01]
Last year I retired my gas trimmer (too many expensive tune-ups, noisy, polluting, keeping 2T fuel a nuisance ) and bought the YardStick. It does an excellent job on my small lawn, and I have even used it for clearing long grass on a steep bank that I am attempting to reclaim (it worked, but was struggling somewhat). Contrary to other reviewers, I don't find it heavy or badly balanced, and it has two huge advantages. The first is the quick head rotation, switching from edging to trimming instantly. The second is the guide wheel, just above the spool, which allows me to maintain sharp edges without "wandering" into the lawn proper. But two cautions. The first is that it is fully mounted into the charging bracket when it is off-vertical! If you put it on vertically, see a green light and think you're alright, you'll be disappointed. Make sure it's slightly tilted and showing a red light, and you'll get a long running time per charge. The second is that it is definitely not an edging tool. Form your edges with a proper cutting tool, and then use the YardStick to maintain them, or you'll be frustrated by the slow progress and will use line by the mile (I pull out the line manually fairly frequently, and so avoid the nuisance of rethreading after a break). I strongly recommend this trimmer, without hesitation.
