Quality Product, Delivery and Assembly Issues [Posted on 2008-05-09] I ordered this hose cart as a birthday gift for my husband. As other reviewers mentioned, the box arrived completely beat up with one large hole. It needs to be shipped in a heavy-duty brown cardboard box - not the thin cardboard you would expect to see it in on the shelf of a store. The directions were confusing, and differed from the list of parts included (ie, the partlist said 1 of a certain type of screw was packed, and the assembly instructions referenced 2 in assembly). In the end, we had to buy additional parts from the hardware store, and my husband probably spent 3 hours trying to assemble it. But, it is high quality, and appears very durable.
I'll let you know how it works after I get all the parts [Posted on 2008-05-12] This product came to my house missing 4 critical screws. I spent a long time searching through all the packing material for them, but they're missing. They're pretty standard items, so it will be easier for me to pick some up at the hardware store than it will be to return this item...but it's frustrating to spend this much money on a hose reel that isn't functional until I go pick up a few pennies worth of hardware.
The quality of this product seems ok; I had to apply some grease to get this thing to go together because it isn't manufactured to very high tolerances. It's always disappointing to run into assembly problems on something that should go together with no hassle.
poor quality junk [Posted on 2008-06-01] First of all, Amamzon did a good job of giving me full credit without any arguments, but I had to call back until I got a person who's first language was English. This is an example of junk made in China or some third rate country. It leaked after one week and rusted in TWO days. Ames True Temper sent me a complete new cart for free {because the defective part was not available}. The second cart leaked the first time I used it and I swear it rusted right before my eyes. This junk reminded me of the last mid 80's GM car I owned. Stay away from this lousey cart.
Major parts missing [Posted on 2008-06-02] The wheel axles were not in the box. The box was not damaged so they were probably never placed in the box in the first place. No phone number on the user's manual. Found the phone number on the internet and got an answering machine. It says made in China on the box.
Missing parts and leaks like a sieve [Posted on 2008-06-06] As other reviewers have noted -- this is a very nice product. Tough, works well and I should be able to avoid replacing those plastic hose rollers every year.
But the complaint about missing screws is spot on. How hard can it be to pack the proper number of screws? There must be a factory in China someplace where, after a production run of these reels, the workers look at the leftover pile of screws and wonder if something wasn't right with the screw count.
So -- I would recommend the product -- but be prepared for a trip to the hardware store to get the proper fasteners to build the thing.
UPDATE - After using the product lightly for 1.5 months, it has started to leak badly out of a factory installed fitting. It's not something the buyer can fix. If I could figure out a way to lower this rating to 1 star (or less), I would.
