Best hose for a balance of attributes. [Posted on 2007-07-20] We have a commercial flower farm and with the droughts every summer we have to run literally hundreds of yards of hoses to water our daylillys. Over the years, as we have expanded our beds, we have got hoses from various companies to add to our collection. Sears Rubber,Flexogen,Swan soft and supple, and everything in between. Out of all these hoses I believe the 5000 series Neverkink offers the best balance of flexibility and kink resistance. They appear durable and long lasting also. Its important to follow the instructions when you first uncoil your new hose. I roll it straight and get all the twists out by making sure the stripe is straight. I let it lay that way in the sun for a day and afterwards this hose will not kink in my experience. Amazon has a great deal on these hoses. I'm very happy with mine.
The best hose we ever bought! [Posted on 2007-11-08] Most of our previous hoses split due to being exposed to the hot summer sun all day. This hose is perfect for extreme conditions like this. It is very thick and puncture proof. Highly recommended.
Garden Hose [Posted on 2007-12-08] The product quality looked OK, and value was comparable to local stores. Online ad was skimpy on details like color of hose. A call to Amazon customer service prior to ordering produced an "I think the color is....." answer. Returned the hose and still looking for similar item in a brown or beige color. Art 12-8-07
works as advertized, never kinks [Posted on 2008-02-12] I have this exact hose and I can vouch that it has worked precisely as advertised. It doesn't kink and I've used it for close to 4 years now. Both my pure rubber hoses and my other vinyl hoses kink like mad, but not these NeverKink hoses. The magic is in the mesh construction which prevents kinking.
I should qualify the above statements by stating that even with these neverkink hoses the user is supposed to minimize introducing twists into the hose. The proper way to unrolling/rolling the hose is by using a hose wheel with a crank handle. If one uncoils the hose by hand without using a hose wheel, every loop of the coil represents a twist along the axis of the hose that ends up as a potential kink when the hose is extended. This is true regardless whether the hose is neverkink or other types. That said, the neverkink hasn't ever kinked once when I used a hose wheel. It's possible it MIGHT kink if I coil/uncoil it by hand without a hose wheel, but I'm sure to a much less extent compared to other hoses.
The 5000 series is advertised to be flexible down to 35 degrees F and I found this to be true compared to my other vinyl hoses which turn stiff below 40 degrees F. The extra flexibility compared to the cheaper 2000, 3000, and 4000 series is achieved undoubtedly by adding more plasticizers to the vinyl. Since the hose is semi-transparent it is also advertised to have an antimicrobial coating inside to keep microbial growth at bay.
When I turn the hose on after the water has been sitting in it for a couple of days, the water that comes out usually has a lot of foams for the first gallon or two. I think the foams are caused by the antimicrobial coating or perhaps even the plasticizer chemicals in the hose. Even after 4 years, it still causes a lot foaming. This worries me a bit because I use the hose to water my fruit trees and vegetables. What if the chemicals are harmful and what if they can be absorbed by the plants and end up in my body? I can't imagine either antimicrobial or plastizer chemicals are good for the body.
This hose is great [Posted on 2008-04-30] This hose seems to be as described. No issues with it after one month. It appears very sturdy and well made. I would buy another.
