Good quality, but a bit too small [Posted on 2008-07-16]
I had to upgrade to a larger size, but the vise is a good quality vise with nice castings and the screw and guides were better than I expected for the price ($57). The jaw opening is the best I've seen for this size and it seemed to allow for a really good amount of clamping force (no good way for me to measure it). If you don't need a large face size for larger wood pieces this vise would be hard to beat for the money. The action is smooth and built in dog was a nice touch. With the large jaw opening (over 10") you can mount a nice sized wood face/jaws, but any jaws larger than 12" may allow too much racking to be usable (hence my upgrade to a larger vise). The quick release seemed to work well, but looked to be the weak point of the vise (where it may break/wear out). Overall this is the best value I've found for any woodworking vise under $60. If I didn't work on large pieces, this would have stayed on my bench.
