Cheaply made in China. Spend a few extra dollars and buy a higher quality clamp. The Jorgensen, for example, are made from significantly thicker material and are straighter along the bottoms (helps when setting on a bench prior to clamping). The tolerances on these are very low, which means they bind more frequently when you are trying to slide them along the pipe. I thought Bessey represented high quality craftsmanship, but I'm sorry to see it doesn't seem to be the case any more.
