Big Horn 10221B Push Stick [Posted on 2006-02-01]
If you enjoy keeping the use of your fingers a push stick of some sort is a must-have item when working with narrow items on a table saw. This item is comfortable to hold and does it's job well. It isn't expensive, but it earns four stars instead of five because a shop-made alternative is equally effective.

Good idea, bad design [Posted on 2006-06-23]
Don't get me wrong-- push sticks are important. If you're interested in keeping all your digits, they're essential. But the Big Horn 10221B design (and others like it) leave an awful lot to be desired. On the table saw, kickbacks are just as dangerous as getting your fingers close to the saw blade, and this design gives you almost no control over your workpiece other than the slippery ability to push it forward. A good design should put ten or more inches of push stick material in contact with your workpiece so you have the control necessary to keep your workpiece tight against the table saw or router fence. Do use a push stick, but only use this kind if you don't have anything else available: you can do better and be safer with other designs!

OK, But Use With Caution [Posted on 2007-02-09]
The Big Horn was my first push stick. It is well shaped for the purpose, and I use mine occaisionally, but I caution that it is plastic and can suddenly slip sideways on wood. Always consider where your hand will end up if the stick slips during a cut. I have since made a wooden paddle-type push stick (15"x6"x1/2") for the table saw, and I believe it is much safer.

buy several of these for your shop [Posted on 2007-12-13]
It's cheap, it's soft enough to not damage blade, it's bright so you won't lose it. AND IT KEEPS YOUR FINGERS FROM BEING CUT OFF!!!

Works well... good value (Don't use it to touch the blade - it's a safety devise, remember?) [Posted on 2008-07-27]
Don't ever push the board with your hands when a tool like this exists. I have hit the blade (didn't explode for me), but I would rather destroy one of these than one of my fingers. Who wants to look like their first career was a Shop Teacher in Grade 8? Also find one that is very thin, sometimes comes with a magnet to attach to the tool and have at easy reach... just ordered by third thin one and another plastic one like this one. You can never have too many so they can be kept close and the temptation to push it with your favorite forefinger doesn't occur.
