Awesome Hammer Drill for the Price! [Posted on 2004-06-07] I'm very happy with this drill. I'm an electrician's apprentice and use this drill for work. Being at a lower pay scale, I can't afford the DeWalt product line. This drill has worked very well drilling 1/4" holes in cement block for plastic anchors. I also use it with a Vari-bit up to 7/8" through metal troughs. I had the BD 18v drill and was NOT satisfied with it. The quick change chuck was a nice feature but the drill lacked torque. The chuck also had very poor grip on straight shaft bits. I wanted to stay with an 18v system to go with circ & reciprocating saws. However, the 24v hammer drill makes it worth carrying 2 different battery chargers to the job site. I've only had it a month so I only gave it 4 stars. I'm taking a gamble to see if a drill that's half the price of the deWalt will be durable enough. If I'm as happy with it after a year I'll give it 5 stars.
Professional Deck Builder/Black and Decker "snob" [Posted on 2006-12-25] I received this item as a gift a little over a year ago. My first inclination was to doubt quality as soon as I saw "Black and Decker". I have been most pleasantly surprised by this item. It is easy to use, fast charging, and powerful enough to drive lags, screw down IPE/Ironwood, and has done any task I would ask of a powerful corded drill. I am of the impression B&D has overhauled their tool line in terms of quality and design. Based on my positive experience with this 24 Volt drill, I will now always compare B&D power tool offerings. Ironically...I have a DeWalt corded drill I am thinking of throwing away...low quality, less power than advertised (5 Amp).
Great product [Posted on 2007-02-15] I love this drill! Installing home alarms and home entertainment products in customers' homes, I am constantly going up and down stairs and from one side of town to the other. I couldn't do my job without this drill.
The only problem I have is finding power packs for this drill. I MUST have backup charged batteries, and with only the one power pack I had to buy two more batteries just to change out the battery.
great impressive drill [Posted on 2007-11-07] im an electrician with a few years in the trade, i do commercial work new construction. my drill hangs from my belt, i have ryobi, milwakee, and craftsman 18v drills.. once i bought the firestorm 24v i havent used the other drills at all. my favorite part is i can seriously go 2 or 3 days with 1 charge on 1 battery. and i drill in concrete and steel everyday. i love the torque. i love the speed. and it weighs about the same as all my 18v drills. every feature is impressive.. only downside is the lights on the charger only show for power not for when fully charged. but im really happy with this drill.
