Nice Planer While It Worked [Posted on 2008-02-11] I bought the 240v version of this planer. It was nice while it worked. Now it's been almost three weeks and I'm still "waiting for parts". Nice planer, shocking support.
Nothing lines up! [Posted on 2008-03-17] The front and rear shoes are not on the same plane and the blades do not line up with either of them. If set at zero, the planer would remove material...but only on one side! I'm glad I read these reviews so I knew what to look out for when I purchased this soon to be returned item. If you decide to give this one a shot, take a straight edge to the bottom of this turd and hope its all on the same "plane".
Even better [Posted on 2008-04-08] I'm a boat builder and had the precurser to this planer when I started my schooner many years ago. It went through thousands of feet of oak and mahogany bevel cuts and was a pleasure to use. My friends had the ubiquitous Makita planer and I was swayed to switch to it (after my Bosch was stolen) because you can mill down the cutting depth adjustment to get an 1/8" of cut, and the Makita is powerful enough to handle it.
The Makitas have one flaw that always bothered me though, they vibrate a lot, probably from the drum being out of balance. So when my Makita was stolen (if you've been around a while you know what I'm talking about) and I heard about this new Bosch I was all over it. It does not disappoint.
It's as smooth as silk. The beveling fence is for real too. The guy that invented the switch-over chip exhaust deserves a raise. No more chips in the face when you have to change direction to avoid a blow out. Double edged carbide insert blades. Isn't technology (occationaly) wonderful?
My only complaint is that with all the new power this puppy has the job is over before you've hardly had the chance to enjoy it.
Just don't steal mine! Go buy your own.
