top notch saw [Posted on 2008-01-18] Excellent saw. I use this for both framing and finish work. It's accurate and dependable. The handle is unique in that it can be rotated to various positions. The little table extensions come in handier than I ever expected them to. I love the attention to larger than 45 degree cuts for both cut types.
The 12 incher takes a while to get to full speed. For faster cutting in framing setups, I use a 10 inch chop for a lot of work because it ramps to full speed way faster, less downtime. The main purpose for my bosch 12 inch is when I want beautiful, consistent cuts such as in moldings. It also comes in handy for angled cross cuts that normally required a hand circular saw to perform.
The laser is the stupidest damned thing I've ever seen. It only turns on when the blade is rotating due to its design. Hitachi uses a laser with a switch. It stays on until I turn it off. I used the Hitachi laser to line up cut angles and find angles of particular pieces perfectly and without a hitch. Trying to do that by running the blade up and down the piece not only nicks it (which really matters for finished pieces) but almost never really works perfectly. Having lost that ability with my Bosch saw is one of the saddest things that has happened to me. Some people might argue that i can do the same thing with the Bosch saw on. You can go ahead and hold your work secure while adjusting the angle of the cut and the placement of the piece with one hand and holding the saw on with the other hand (which is dangerous because your hand will be under a running a blade, don't actually do it). I think Bosch added it as an afterthought in order to be able to use it as an advertising gimmick. It's a waste of time, don't bother installing it.
Other than the laser, which perhaps I was spoiled over, I am very happy with this purchase and have had a lot of guys comment on the quality of the cut that occurs without fail from this saw. In the end, the quality of the cut and the ability to make a variety of cuts is all that matters.
Bosch 5412L [Posted on 2008-01-28] My builder walked off to another job...I had to finish the trim myself. I had used a sears miter saw and the cuts were difficult with the tall trim. I ordered this and it came perfect out of the box...Best decision I made...Every person I had to help me on my home drooled over the ease of the Bosch 5412L. It made my work look professional....Thanks Bosch Amazon had a great delivery time.....
Bosch Miter Saw [Posted on 2008-02-19] This saw is insane. By far the best saw I have ever used. The saw was square right out of the box, no adjustments needed! Bevel controls in the front make it so easy and fast to use. Totaly recommend this product.
Impressive and Solid [Posted on 2008-02-22] I'm a do it yourselfer (intermediate) and have been recently upgrading all of my tools to Bosch, Hitachi and Makita. I sprung for the Bosch 5412L 12" , its "brother" miter table the Bosch TracRac, and it's second cousin the Bosch Digital Protractor DWM40LK. Shipping arrived on time and free, no problems at all. My first words when I opened the box was "WOW", this is a serious tool (at least it looks like it is worth $600 big ones). There is nothing to getting the Miter saw setup, but the table takes a beginner like me about an hour to get setup and the saw in place. Make sure and hold the arbor button in and KEEP turning the wheel until it catches (laughing at myself). Trust me, get the Bosch miter table and the crown molding accessories as they make my life so much easier cutting crown molding for my new kitchen cabinets. I purchased a Forrest Chopmaster blade because of the good reviews and I needed something to make perfect cuts as the crown molding I purchased was expensive. Using the Bosch digital protractor, I easily get my Miter angle and Bevel angle and turn the dials on the saw and whammo, perfect cuts. I have a lot of crown molding (with a 38 degree spring angle) to put up and saved so much money buying the equipment and doing this myself. I am not a professional by any means, so in summary: Bosch 12" Miter saw perfect 10/10, Bosch Digital Protractor 10/10, and Bosch Miter table 9.5/10 because they forgot two washers and didn't supply enough pictures for D.A.'s like me, but once you set it up, we r talking a serious, serious cutting machine. Oh yeah, this can easily be set up by yourself but you may want to bribe a friend when attaching it to the stand...
Great Tool [Posted on 2008-04-01] I love this saw. I bought thru Amazon approx 2 years ago. It's powerful and easy to use. The Bosch stand is a worthwhile addition.
