handles broke after one summer [Posted on 2006-12-17]
Right up until it broke this was a really impressive tool. It was easy to use and could handle tough jobs. However, the fiberglass handles are too weak. For a tool of this price and so-called quality the handles should be steel or at least cast aluminum. I stored the tool in a hot garage that got well over 120 degrees in the summer and maybe that had something to do with how easily the handles broke.

If I can find one with stronger handles I might consider getting another one because this tool was otherwise excellent. But as is this tool is too easily broken to be good value.

Heavy duty and HEAVY weight [Posted on 2007-03-13]
I've used this lopper for the past year and have no complaints about its performance, but it is too heavy to use for general purpose cutting of small branches. It easily cuts 1-1/2 to 2" diameter branches but will wear you out if you use it for the whole job. I learned quickly to take both models out to the garden -- the lightweight aluminum loppers for all the small trimming and this brute for the big stuff.
So far there's no sign that the handles are inadequate as posted by another reviewer.
