Customer Reviews:

Works great - if indoors or in the shade [Posted on 2008-03-24]
This device accurately measures distances (and the laser is a great cat toy, as well!).

As noted in some other reviews, the laser spot is not bright enough to be seen in bright sunlight. Other than that, it's fine.

Accurate. Ergonomic. Comfortable. Nice size. Easy to use.

Small and accurate [Posted on 2008-04-06]
This equipment is small but you can measure distances up to 30 m (100 ft) with and accurancy of 6 mm (3/8"). Great when your are checking distance during my inspecrions.

Great Product [Posted on 2008-04-08]
Very good product. Cannot beat the price. Use it in construction every day. Very accurate.

great item [Posted on 2008-04-12]
This is a really good product. It uses a Leica Geosystems measuring components which are on of the best. It measures on semi-reflective surfaces. The beam will reflect off of very dark color, such as near black gray or brown, but will not work on pure black, such as black cat or a high gloss black computer case. You will get error 255. The laser in the device is straight and is not supposed to be reflected back into the lens. This will blind the optics and cause a 258 error. The surface it is used on does not have to be flat.
Ttesting:
It will precisely measure a flat white wall, silver colored tv, dark gray cabinet, very dark brown molding, vertical and horizontal steel piping, clock face, semi-translucent plastic cutting sheet leaning on a faucet at a 65 degree angle, white carpet, a milky white metal chair back and people.

It will not properly measure a silverstone black desktop case, black japanese ebony wood table, a black cat laying on a white carpet. These will give a 255 error.

It will give false readings if measuring through a window or a mirror.

The device does add its own length to the measurement, so the device measures from rubber back of the device to wherever the beam hits.

Invoice cost ~$30-40
I found and bought it for $45.

Handy tool [Posted on 2008-05-02]
I am an appraiser and typically wear out 3 to 5 fiberglass tapes a year measuring houses. I had purchased a sonic measuring device which was pathetically unreliable unless you were measuring a short unobstructed inside corner to inside corner. The laser is a huge improvement in that it gives you pinpoint accuracy for measuring point to point, but don't throw your tape away. The laser is great for certain measurments, but not practical for others. the addition/subtraction feature is really handy. Using the tape and laser together priceless. Probably cuts my measuring time down by 30% to 40%.
