Perfect for the remodeler / renovator [Posted on 2008-01-14] I'm a apartment building remodeler and needed a portable table saw for trim and light carpentry work. I purchased the Bosch 4000-09 because of its portability. In practice, the Bosch was way too big & cumbersome for small jobs and doesn't fit in my Prius. I think the Bosch is a much better table saw with a wider range of applications. The DeWalt DW745 however is the one I actually use. The DeWalt is smooth, exact, powerful and truly portable. I highly recommend it for those who need a high-quality portable table saw.
Smoth action, lightwieght, powerful enough [Posted on 2008-02-29] So far so good, I've used this on a couple flooring jobs ripping hardwood and laminate flooring to width and it's performed superbly. I have no complaints other than the cost (which amazon is probably going to be your best bet, especially with no tax and free ship). I do regret not purchasing the matching stand (DEWALT DW7450) that's about 70 bucks, I'll be picking up one of those in the near future. Oh, and the width of cut measurement for the guide/fence is well thought out and doesn't have nearly the play of some of the other brands, just go to sLowes and check one of these out, then buy it here for less.
nice saw [Posted on 2008-03-15] I looked at table saws at the local hardware stores before I bought this. One of the best features this saw offers over many competitors is a more stable fence than other similar saws. In other models, the fence binds when I tried to move it. I didn't have that problem with this saw. It is not a floor model, thus the table is small and it is harder to keep everything square to the fence. However, I don't have the room for a floor model, so this was a perfect compromise between what I really wanted and what works for my space. I am happy with the purchase, and it is a great saw for the $$.
Great Saw [Posted on 2008-03-18] I am a newbie to woodworking and I bought this saw at a home improvement store because it was on sale and it carried the DeWalt name, so I figured it was a good buy. Luckily, I was right.
This saw has done everything I have asked it to do. While I always want a bigger table saw, my garage won't permit it, so this compact saw is perfect for what I do. Its powerful motor (along with a sharp blade) slices through just about anything you put to it. It looks good and cleans easy and has a port on the back so you could hook up a shop-vac so you don't make a complete mess. The sturdy fence does a great job for ripping all sorts of woods.
The only thing that I don't care much for is the crappy miter gauge. It's c-h-e-a-p from top to bottom. The slots are not T-slots, so they just go in and out...like...just fall out. My particular saw miter gauge has quite a bit of play in it. So, it's somewhat easy not to get a perfectly straight crosscut. But, that'll all be solved when I get my sliding miter saw.
All in all, it's a great saw. It's powerful, reliable, mobile, and carries a good name. It's great for anyone looking for a high quality table saw that doesn't cost alot, weigh alot, or take up a lot of room.
Highly recommeded!
bang for the buck....and then some [Posted on 2008-03-31] Got to say that this is the first time I've left a review. This saw works perfect, not too loud like some say. But I'm use to my dad's old ryobi that rattles and shakes all over the place. I bought this saw because I needed something small, I'm a weekend warrior at best but would love to get into woodworking more and figured for $299 + free shipping I couldn't go wrong. I already had a makita tablesaw and stablemate100 set up so I took a chance that I'd be able to just buy another set of bases for the stablemate and set this thing on it rather than having to buy a stand or set it on the ground or screw it to a chunk of plywood on top of a couple saw horses. Guess what.... works perfectly, and not tipsy at all!! I had to take off the rubber feet and adjustable legs on back to run the bolts for the stablemate base but who needs em anyway? Being on top of the stablemate it puts it a little high but I'm tall so it works out just fine. The rack & pinion fence with solid lock works fantastically... Glad I bought it! 4 stars just for not being able to go to 24" width...no biggie
