I LOVE this Tool! [Posted on 2000-06-30] I bought one of these (DeWalt DW977) in March of 1997, along with a 3/8" Sq. Socket Adapter (Vermont American #15475) so it functions very well for all 3/8" square drive sockets and screw drivers, and I have been using it every week day in my Auto Repair business since then. It is perfect for a number of reasons: It is powerful enough for most tasks; up to 25Ft/Lbs, although I ususally hand torque everything anyway. Only a small amount of power is needed for most tasks, and it has a variable power trigger AND another power level adjustment, so I don't have to worry about breaking any bolts or screws, able to get the power down to almost nothing for the tiny screws and 4mm bolts. It's been rugged, never failed to operate, even though I've dropped it and have used it in the rough way that familierity breeds. I'm buying another one today on Amazon, just to have as a backup, as I CAN'T be without it!
The Makita Impacts are Better [Posted on 2001-12-19] I have used both this tool and many of the offerings from all the other manufacturers in the cordless impact category, and while any impact driver is a welcomed improvement over the conventional drill driver, the Makita impacts are far superior. More power, lighter, more compact, and less strain on the wrist for the operator. My next purchase will be one of theirs. You can actually drive lag bolts without putting any pressure on the bolt itself, they drive themselves. Quite a tool. I definately recomend checking them out. I hear their 24V impacts will do frozen lugs on cars and trucks. Wow.
The Best Cordless Impact I've Ever Used! [Posted on 2002-06-28] Another fantastic product from DeWalt! I have used Makita impacts and they just can't match the DeWalt. I've used it to drive 4 inch screws into decks without even having to drill holes first! I have also used it for automotive fasteners (except tires of course) and have never had a problem with it yet. Also, here's a small bit of advice for those of you who are considering buying this item: If you're going to drive screws with this tool, be sure and use square drive screws. This baby puts out alot of torque and will strip a phillips drive.
