Customer Reviews:

Nice saw for the money [Posted on 2005-07-09]
I just started using my model 36-675 saw, and so far, I am very pleased with its performance. The saw is built very solidly, and it has an easily replaceable motor in the rear. After I fine-tuned the fence and blade for squareness, wood cuts were right on the money. This would be a great saw for small to medium-sized wood shops.

A good performer [Posted on 2006-03-18]
Because the table saw is so important in the workshop, I waited a year to write this review. You should inventory your needs and research available products on the market. I have had the saw for a year and am happy with its performance.
pros: I really like the on/off switch. It is very easy to slap off. I really like the T2 fence and find it similar to the Biesemeyer Home Shop Fence. It is very easy to change out blades.

cons: It has steel stamped wings. I would have prefered the cast iron wings that are available on the 36-680. (I got the saw on sale at Home depot for $250.) It has a 30" rip capacity. This is a step up from my old benchtop model, however, I would prefer 50" capacity. I truly feel the saw is underpowered and would much prefer the 1 3/4 HP that Delta now uses on their hybrid saws. Dust collection is possible only with the purchase of a dust hood and alot of rigging.

I recommend this saw. It is what it is - a contractor saw not a cabinet saw. It has served me well and I have made many projects on it. I found myself doing alot of add on's to make it more like a cabinet saw. It is serving me well, however, I would recommend looking at the new Delta hybrid saws. They are better powered and dust collection is simple.

If you purchase this saw you can do many things to make it better like I did. You MUST change the belt to the Power Twist Plus Belt. It makes a world of difference!!! Add an outfeed table. One advantage of the stamped steel wings is that they have holes on the side of them where the cast iron wings do not. (Update 12-1-06: I have added cast iron wings to the saw and they now come with holes on both sides. I now have two cast iron wings on the left of my saw and one on the right with another saw bolted to that. This allows me to have a blade on the left saw with a dado stack on the right. I had to replace the on/off switch in November 2006 when it broke. Delta sent another one in 1 week. Thanks Delta. ) You can use them for bolting on your outfeed table. I also made a hanging board on the left side of my saw. I store my extra Freud saw blades, miter gage, inserts and push sticks on it. I made it out of a sheet of 3/4" plywood and just bolted it to the steel wing and let it hang down. (works great)
I added a delta mobile base and boxed in the bottom to add primitive dust collection.

Excellent value [Posted on 2006-05-14]
Just purchased this saw from Rockler for $399 + tax. For the price it's an outstanding saw. Almost everything was aligned right out of the box. The only thing that needed a little tweaking was the fence (adjustment to miter slot), the splitter (alignment with the blade), and the 90 degree stop on the blade. From previous posts I was concerned about the fence, but after using it I'm really happy with it. I haven't noticed and flex and I haven't had trouble setting it to the rule.

The stamped steel wings were a concern for me because I'm planning on replacing the right one with a router table. A plus is they are MUCH easier to align than cast iron. No shims needed. Just move them into place and tighten the bolts. I may eventually change out the left wing with a cast iron one, but right now I really don't see the need too.

The only thing that I can complain about is the milling on the cast iron top. It isn't nearly as smooth as the tops on more costly saws. It's more like the quality one sees on the TS200 model Delta makes. The top was flat. I didn't take a feeler gauge to it, but I couldn't see any light under my straight edges.

I put a dial indicator on the arbor and it wasn't as tight as I hoped but it was acceptable. The flange itself was .001 and the end of the arbor was .002. Where it was really tight was the blade seat next to the flange. That was < .001.

I put a Freud F410 blade on it and the rip and crosscuts were very smooth. I used featherboards above and to the side of the on the rip cuts. This blade added another .002 to the runout.

One other thing that I was apprehensive about was it being a right tilt saw. But after using it, I can hang with it. I really don't think it's as big a deal as a lot of threads on the web tend to make it.

I also put it on the Woodcraft mobile base (plywood version) which works well with the saw.

Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. I had considered buying the new Delta hybrids, the Craftsman hybrids, the new Delta left-tilt contractors, the Ridgid 3650, General and Grizzly. They're all fine saws, but at $399 it seemed the best value to me. A close second was the Ridgid saw, but I wasn't too thrilled with the base (it seemed flimsy and 'tipsy' to me).

Excellent Tablesaw!!! [Posted on 2006-08-07]
Well I purchased this saw back in 2005. Since I primarily am a novice, with big woodworking ambition, and with no more than 3 years woodworking experience in high school, I can't brag about my 30 years of cabinetry experience, or contractor experience. What I can tell you is that after 3 years of high school woodworking, and a couple of decades watching Norm, and now recently furniture artist, David Marks, I am hooked!!
When I went shopping for a tablesaw here in Houston, I found a local tool store who had a Delta 36-675 set up. After looking at Sears, and at other tablesaws, and a few tips from my old woodshop teacher, I focused on the rip fence. When I first encountered the Delta 36-675, with the T-2 fence, I moved the fence to 4 3/4" to the blade. Walked to the tape measure section, and grabbed a tape measure, and measured the front and the rear of the blade to the fence, and it was set dead on, I was sold!!
Setup was extremely easy, with the instruction booklet. I only needed a blade guard adjustment, and of course a fence adjustment, and I haven't had to touch anything since. I soon after purchased a dado insert, and set of dado blades, and in my image of the saw an extension table. Since then I've added a link belt (buy this while purchasing your saw, and install it in lieu of the factory belt, you will not believe the difference it makes!!!).
I encountered some surface rust over the last 2 years, and read a great thread on the Delta website, indicating to spray the top with Slick 50 spray lube, and sand the top with 400 grit wet dry. This worked so effectively at removing the rust, it even gave the top that vintage cast iron look!! I live in Houston, where our humidity is always looming in the 90-100% range, and have not seen the rust return. Excellent preventative repair!!
I've recently removed the Delta table wing, and replaced it with a Rockler router table extension wing, with a Rockler/Jessem FX Lift. It looks great, and I can't wait till later on this month to buy my Porter Cable 893PK for it, and give it a test drive!!! I only build in the cooler months, since my 2 car garage is also my wood shop, and I can't wait for our 1st cool front!!!
I bought this from Amazon, and it came with free shipping, however, the shipper (ABF) called and told me that they couldn't deliver to my residence. One call to Amazon, and they refunded some money so that I could arrange for a local delivery company to pick it up, and deliver it to my residence. When I originally was looking for a tablesaw, I was interested in brand, quality, and the rip fence. Since this experience, I've also added customer service as a deciding factor.
I've recently purchased a Delta 14-651 Mortiser from Amazon, even with the shipping issues, because I knew that if I encountered a problem with a broken tool, I had Amazon behind me. Sure enough, mine came cracked, and broken. One call to Amazon, and had another one here, in pristine condition, in less than 3 days, no questions asked. I've also purchased a new lawn mower from Amazon, after our local Sears completely irritated me, and lost my business for good.
Customer service is such an overlooked factor, like with my experience with Sears regarding the lawnmower. After I ordered the Poulan Lawn Mower, I emailed Amazon, and notified them of their customer service level they set for the customer. In my opinion, ALL companies should use Amazon's customer service training, as a template. After all, we all have a choice where we spend our hard earned dollars, why should we settle for mediocre, or even poor customer service, when there is Amazon.com??
In my opinion, this is a great tablesaw, regardless of origin of build, made even better by Amazon's exceptional customer service!! I'm very satisfied with it, and will enjoy using it long into the future!!

Great saw [Posted on 2006-12-10]
I purchased this saw 'lightly used' this summer. My saw came with one extension wing and the unifence. This is my second Delta saw, having sold my first Delta to upgrade to this model.

Likes:
- Lots of power
- Easily adjustable angle and lift
- Angled dust chute
- Ease of use

Dislikes:
- Electical cord not long enough
- Motor is not TEFC

Overall: I really wanted to buy the JET but I could not find one in time for my next project so this saw was a TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE alternative.
