Great saw, great price. [Posted on 2006-08-13] Tablesaw arrived quickly and in top condition. Setup was fast and painless: the necessary adjustments on fence, etc. were just what one would expect on any high-end saw. Two bits of advice to pass on. One: fasteners are both metric and standard so don't get them mixed up. Two: fasteners provided for the extension table on my saw were incorrect so sorting everything out and getting the correct fasteners first will save you time and grief. Finely, if your new saw is replacing an older one, cut out the extension table parts on your old saw before hauling it off. It's much easier than trying to rip up sheet goods on a saw without a fully functional fence system. Even with the minor hassles with fasteners, I'll give this one five stars: great saw at a great price.
Amazing saw at any price. [Posted on 2006-09-16] I ordered this saw on Sept 1st 2006 and it was delivered one week later. This is an amazing deal through Amazon, but at any price, this is a serious table saw. Quality is outstanding. Some people have complained about recent Delta table saws, the cast iron wings not matching the table. Mine were perfect. 3 horsepower is more than enough for any job. Three belt drive for maximum power transfer. My model came with the Delta Unifence, which is a great fence system. One thing I like about the Unifence is the fence face is 43 inches long. The table is 27 deep, so you have extra fence length that sticks out past the table. This helps make an accurate cut in pushing that last inch or so past the blade. I have wanted a cabinet saw for some time, and have looked at Grizzly, General, Jet and Powermatic. I was seriously considering the Delta hybrid saw, but with 1 3/4 horsepower, I was worried that wouldn't be enough power. Maybe it would have been, but for just a little more money, you get more power, more capacity (50 inch Unifence vs. 30 inch Unifence), magnetic switch and 3 belt drive. This is the saw to buy, I would recommend this purchase to anyone with a serious desire to have the best available at any price. Dont wait too long, the price has to go up soon.
good for the $$$$ [Posted on 2006-09-29] Just finished putting this saw together for my son. For the price it is a good saw and he ordered the Besyemeyer fence, which is excellent (except for install instructions, lol). He also ordered the mobile base for it which is well built but had to be exchanged because the original was wrong size for saw. Assembly of the saw is really a 2 person job n takes about 3-4 hrs. Except for the fact that the 2 side extensions were not flat (have hi/low spots of .003-.005) where the connect to the main table it was fairly easy. Be prepared tho, you need to order the insert or build one so you can complete set up. The saw ran well and cut square after very little fine tuning. A very good alternative to a Unisaw, especially for garage work and the money you save.
What next? [Posted on 2006-10-02] I got my saw in less then a week. I had my father-in-law present to accept the order due to work. Before I arrived home, my father-in-law called me and stated that the packages were in poor condition. When I got home, there was no need to check the tip indicator on the box; the saw arrived on it's side and looked like it was rolled to my residence. All three boxes were damaged. The box containing the fence was completely missing one side and the fence body and bolts were loose and damaged. The saw looked like it took a major fall and was now on another pallet with the original pallet on the side. The side of the box with the most damage was strategically placed on the pallet to mask the damage. So much for a precision saw. Amazon was great about the return. No questions asked and the re-order e-mail contained a sincere apology. After an e-mail to the shipper, I got my second replacement in less then a week and the boxes were in pristine condition. The tip indicator was scraped so I couldn't tell if it was tipped. I should have listened to the previous posters because I ordered their mobile stand and as stated, it is too small. Amazon needs to research the suggested accessories a little better. Last week they suggested that I buy a dado insert for a left tilt saw. I'm sure it wouldn't do too well for this right tilt saw. The dado insert that they now advertise has rounded ends and the insert for this saw is square. After assembling my saw and plugging in the unit. I was immediately discouraged because the saw just made a grinding noise; not from the motor, but from the magnetic switch. I checked my wiring specification and seem to be fine. I called Delta's customer care center and received a busy signal. I tried the number to locate a center near me and found the customer care option through that. To my dismay, their hours are the same work hours as mine so I will have to use company time to call. I will update the post if I can get my saw to work.
Poor customer Service [Posted on 2007-01-06] I ordered this saw 2 Oct 2006. I was given a delivery date of 5 Oct 2006.
Of course this didnt happen. I contacted the freight company the saw was about 1 hour away from my location waiting for a smaller truck to make a trip this way, which could take a week.
Anyways it finally arrived. Tip indicator was smashed, but the box looked OK. Buddy and I unpackaged it and, brought out the instructions. We read the parts list and found out that the fence rails were missing.
Additionally the head that the fence attaches to was damaged, along with the fence itself being damaged. So I contact Amazon about the missing/damaged pieces. Here is 6 January 2007 and I still do not have a replacement for the damaged fence. I have sent no less than 8 emails and calls to them.
As far as the SAW itself seems to run fine, wish I could use it. Assembly instructions were, eh, OK, I did have to go out and buy differently tread pitch bolts, as there seems to be a discrepancy in the instructions, and the correct bolts were not supplied.
Oh and the mobilebase that Amazon advertises that fits this saw, NO IT DOESN'T.
The rating I am giving reflects how upset I am over this transaction. No compensation has been offered, nothing to solve this problem. Buyers be ware. Upset? Heck yes I am. I paid my good money, I do not, as of yet, have what I ordered after over 3 months in time.
