This product works great as both a blower and vacuum. Saves me a lot of time with leaves and blowing other debris away!!!

I live in a woods and we have a ton of leaves to remove every spring so I decided to buy a vacuum and this one seem to fit my needs. I have used it several times now and it works great. It does strain more when picking up wet leaves, but this is to be expected because of their weight. It works fantastic on dry leaves and debris. Emptying the bag is unbelievably easy and replacing it is a snap. The unit is somewhat akward at first, but once I played around with different strap positions the weight is distributed evenly making the job effortless. I would highly recommend for both big and small yard jobs. What a timesaver and the "mulching" is icing on the cake. I have not used the blower as I have one that has met my needs so I can not comment on that part.

Factory Reconditioned? Still defective!! [Posted on 2008-05-04]
I gave this item 4 stars because what it does do, it does well. But, on my unit, the higher speed only works with the bag off. I called Black & Decker to see if I was doing something wrong, but no. Seems it was just still defective!! It was also a Type 2 (of 4 Types made, I'm told), so the last thumbnail picture of the cord is completely different than the unit I got. Seems that picture is of either a Type 3 or 4. Type 1 (recalled, I've found) and 2 are different. There was no small cord coming out to attach to my extension cord. Instead, there was just a round area with two prongs sticking out to plug into on the back of the unit itself.

Amazon is now completely out of the Factory Reconditioned models, but was kind enough to replace my unit with a brand new one, for no extra charge and with free 1-day shipping!! Thank you, Amazon! That just adds another to a million reasons why I tend to go with items actually sold by Amazon rather than another seller, even if it's a bit more expensive.

When I get my new one, and have used it, I'm sure I will write a review on the proper page, Black & Decker Leaf Hog 12-AMP Electric Blower/Vacuum #BV4000. I'm pretty sure after I've been able to test a properly working unit I will find that this is a 5-star product, but until then, leaves and debris are piling up and I am waiting!!

For the money this Leaf Hog is the best value on the market. Couldn't tell the difference between the reconditioned and brand new model. Although the impeller is plastic, it still takes abuse and packs a punch when in the blow or vacuum mode. The bag is easier to empty than the Toro model and is relatively simple when changing the blow/vac configuration. My Toro lasted 2 years then the motor armature broke in two. Hopefully this B&D will go the distance.
