Pull Starter Keeps Breaking [Posted on 2008-07-12] I am very disappointed with this product. I have tried two units and both had the same problem. After a couple uses the pull starter mechanism jams and will not retract the starter cord leaving the unit unusable. I ended up returning both units and went out and purchased an Echo GT-200R. It was about 3x the cost but has worked flawlessly and comes with a 5 year warranty.
I do have to say that Amazon was very good about handling the returns and credits. I have purchased many items in the past from Amazon and this is the first time I have been disappointed. Hopefully it was an anomaly.
Reconditioned Homelite Trimmer [Posted on 2008-07-14] Looked like new out of the box and with a little easy assembly it started right up. The starting instructions require using the choke first on full, then half before it will run properly (done with the gas lever depressed) but they put the instructions right on the handle for people like me (grin). I've used it to trim the yard three times since purchasing and it starts easily each time. It is light easy to handle. I've already recommended it to friends.
Nice looking, nonfunctioning junk [Posted on 2008-07-17] Out of the box, this easy-to-assemble refurbished trimmer looks shiny and new. Though hard to start initially, it works quite well for a relatively lightweight string trimmer, that is, for a few hours. I used this useless piece of junk a grand total of five times over 2 weeks. Only twice did it actually work as advertised. After that, it became increasingly nonfunctional, until it no longer starts at all. It would run a few minutes, then gasp and die. Searching the internet for solutions, I discovered this to be a common, non-fixable problem with this particular brand and model. The supposed solution: "contact a servicing dealer." Oh, sure, spend $100 to fix a $60 refurbished out-of-the-box trimmer. A piece of junk. I previously owned 2 Weedeater Featherlites (new), each of which lasted about 2 years, and tomorrow I'm going to the local discount store to buy another one... right after I drop the Homelite off at the dump. Ripped off again.
Factory reconditioned Homelite 17 inch gas powered Mighty Lite curved shaft string trimmer [Posted on 2008-07-17] This trimmer is fine for home use, great bargin. I wouldn't reccomend it for like a lawn mowing business though, but it came looking brand new,it fired rite up & runs fine.I'm happy with it
Whimpy, awkward [Posted on 2008-07-19] I used an older homelite model for 11 years, thought I would by another. This model is very light weight, but VERY poorly designed. Single string head is useless, had to swap with my dual string head from previous trimmer. Where they placed the trigger is HORRIBLE, and is the main reason I got rid of this trimmer after owning for 4 months. Trigger is positioned behind your hand, so you're using your pinky and/or your ring finger to operate. I HATED that. PROS: Inexpensive, runs great, light weight.
