Works Great [Posted on 2008-07-27]
I don't understand the complaints about how it broke right away . . bla. . bla. . bla. It comes with a 1 year factory warranty. Take it to a factory service center and they fix it for free. Just be sure to put gas stabilizer in the fuel and it starts right up even after sitting for over a year.

Update:

The manager of the local hardware store provided some helpful information on this subject. It seems that a number of the smaller stores have stopped selling 2-cycle tools altogether and the larger stores only handle warranty issues through the factory because of the problem with returns.

People either through ignorance of neglect often damage these items and then want their money back. The small (and many larger) places do not have the expertise to differentiate between a factory defect and user damage so they refund the money. It is only when the store attempts to return the item to the factory (who can tell the cause of the failure) and the claim is rejected so the store must absorb the cost. With items ranging in price upwards of $125.00 each it does not take many of these returns to have a real effect on the stores net cash flow.

One possible scenario goes something like this. Many users do not realize that 2-cycle engines do not have an oil sump and must get lubrication mixed in with the fuel. The new owner goes to use the device but does not have a separate container (sometimes even the oil for mixing in the gas). They often fail to read the instructions and just put the same 4-cycle gas they use in the lawn mower into the 2-cycle engine. The engine runs for a few minutes and then is destroyed. It is then they want to return the item.

The bottom line. If you buy a 2-cycle device be sure to have second can with fresh (just for the 2-cycle) gas before you try to use it. Mix the gas with the oil. Also mix in some stabilizer as it will greatly increase the life of the fuel. A half gallon will usually last the summer. Good luck.

Nice Product - Poor Amazon Packaging/Shipping Strikes Again [Posted on 2008-08-25]
Nice Product, Great Value, Works Well. Was concerned when the box it arrived in was partially collapsed and had several holes in it. Amazon needs to do a little better job of packaging with this product, and in general. I had to return items from two other orders this year due to damage in shipping. In both cases they were not well packaged. In both cases though, customer service sent me out a replacement and I sent them back the damaged product. In this case, with it being a gas tool and the zero return policy, I would have been out of luck had it been badly damaged in shipping.

Not for the "weak of heart" [Posted on 2008-08-30]
I purchased this hedge trimmer to supplement the electric hedge trimmer that I use. "Out of the box" it wouldn't start. I brought it to a repair shop that replaced the choke for free. Got it back home, and it wouldn't start. The repair shop (which was great) finally did get it started but told me it would always be a problem starting becuase of the inexpense choke. It is extremely difficult to start (when it does start - about 1 out of three times) - and sits in the corner of my garage as I struggle with taking out the electical cords for my electric trimmer everytime I need to trim our hedges.

Not Even Reconditioned? [Posted on 2008-09-04]
I'm all for a deal and have purchased several reconditioned/remanufactured products that were awesome. However, this trimmer is not one of those success stories. It came in a brown box with some brown paper packaging. That's it. No manual, no warranty card, no suitable packing material. The casing of the trimmer was highly scratched. After following the starting instructions written on the handle, it started after about 50 pulls and then promptly quit when I actually tried to trim something. It has since started only sporadically and still cuts off soon after it is put into use if it even starts at all. I would advise that you spend the extra 20-50 bucks and get something else.

Homelite Disaster [Posted on 2008-09-30]
Factory-Reconditioned Homelite 26cc Gas-Powered MightyLite Hedge Tr (Non-CARB Compliant) #ZR40502has so far proven to be a waste of money. It does not run for more than ten minutes. The repair shop tried once to fix it, but didn't succeed so it will be going back. This is an expensive nuisance since the shop is 21 miles from my house and gas is expensive. I can only say that beware of Homelite reconditioned stuff even if done at the factory. This is the second such product I have bought and both have been problems
