Festool makes high quality, well conceived products. The OF1400 is no exception. Despite it's rather "designed" look, this tool is rugged and solid. Plunge mechanism is smooth, handle grip is convenient, dust collection is excellent, balance good. It works best in handheld mode, allied to the Festool guide rail system.

The router is more expensive than almost any other 2.25 hp router on the market but Festool include a number of extras that cost more on other routers, eg, dust hood, edge guide, bushings, etc. They also offer a 30 day money back guarantee and a 3 year warranty. The jury's out on durability but other Festool products have served me well in the past.

PROS: Soft start, excellent power, detachable power plug, flawless dust collection (when paired with a vac), single-tool/ratcheting bit replacement, great ergonomics with power switch right under your index finger. On the dust collection, you can easily work with MDF without a dust mask.

CONS: dust collection attachments hide the bit so much that you practically can't see it - you lose the extra security of being able to see where the bit is as you approach the workpiece.

I have this router for almost 6 monthes, working everyday
This is an excellant machine, acurate, double loked plunge! and well made, BUT heavy.
Consider use it to big tasks only and buy a smaller one for all others.
