Garden Claw - Gold [Posted on 2007-08-29] I bought my first garden claw a couple of years ago, and I was really happy with it. Well, last summer, a friend came over and I showed it to her. She then "borrowed" it and was so happy with it, that I "gave" it to her. (I really just never received it back from her). So I am now purchasing another one, and I am sure that soon my mom will want one too. My soil is full of rocks ranging from tiny to about 2-3 inches in diameter. When the soil is very dry, it is a little more difficult to use, I agree. BUT it is MUCH easier to use than a shovel. I cannot use a shovel at all (let alone on dry soil) because the force of using the shovel hurts the bottom of my foot. So, I do highly recommend the garden claw because it really does make gardening much much easier. It's not a "do all", but I like to think that it is a "do ALMOST anything you need".
So far so good! [Posted on 2007-10-28] Bought this for my husband to use, I hate gardening. He hasn't complained yet. I think he likes it so far and it seems to work great for weeds, etc.
best weeder/cultivator I've ever used! [Posted on 2007-11-12] This is absolutley the best weeder/cultivator I've ever used and I've tried them ALL!!! I'm pretty intense about weeding my flower/shrub beds and keeping them looking nice and the soil soft around them. I have 6 acres to maintain and most areas have beds. This little gadget made a 2-3 hr job of weeding just one flower bed to about 20-30 minutes even if I let it go till the weeds are getting out of hand. I'm a middle aged female and didn't have to exert any extraordinary effort. There's a bit of a learning curve (took maybe 4-5 tries) and then you're off to the races. It even pulls the weeds up for you!
Makes great BIG holes!!! [Posted on 2008-02-05] "My neighbor asked me if I had a gopher problem...I told him no...they were made by a GARDEN WEASEL!!" This thing's great...but it makes big holes in the lawn that need to be back filled after you twist the weeds out. And depending on how much you use it...the claws may bend out of shape like they did on me. Make sure the area you work on is very moist for easy use. I did mine in the rain....
Works Well on Clay Soil, if you Soak it First [Posted on 2008-03-22] I live in a semi desert area of Sunny Southern California. My soil is Clay and Hard. I got this item to soften it up so that I can amend it. It doesn't tend to work unless you soak the dirt. I have no complaints about that as it is easy to do! I set the hose to a slow drip all day, then it breaks up the soil a few inches deep without too much effort! You could also use a soaker hose. Next step is to put down some compost into the broken up soil and mix it up. It should improve my soil soon. We used to use a small rototiller, the Mantis, previous to this but I like this better. Lighter to use for those of us with carpal tunnel (or elderly), and no gas needed. Great price!
