Best All-Around Ruler [Posted on 2001-01-20]
Let's keep this review simple:

My brother, the young machinist, carries one in his pocket.

My brother-in-law, the self-employed business man/middle-aged machinist, carries one.

My father, the old retired machinist, STILL carries one (and always has).

As for myself, the woodworker, I own two. I used to own three, but I think my wife, the crafter, nicked one.

I logged on just to check the price for my sons. They are too young to know what they want to be, but I'll bet this ruler will fit in somehow.

Crisp, accurate embossed graduations that can't rub off. Ground edges (not sheared from stock).

The only real problem--it's far easier to lose one than it is to wear it out. I think about getting a 1" wide version sometimes, but never do.

I just had a thought...now I know what to get my secretary on when her holiday comes around. She's always mucking around with this wooden, gradeschool ruler. It's time she was a "convert."

I don't know how Brian (first reviewer) does it.... [Posted on 2005-09-12]
I've had quite a few of these amazing little rulers, and they're wonderful. It's just the right size for carrying, it's flexible (but not floppy), and the multiple scales on the four edges are more useful than you'll ever believe until you get one for yourself (one side reads in 32nds on one edge and 64ths on the other, the reverse side reads in 10ths on one edge and and 100ths on the other).

The ruler itself is 15/32" wide, which gives you a perfect 1/2" spacing when you hold your pencil against it to draw the line (if it were 1/2" wide, the lines drawn would be a little more than 1/2" apart).

For those of you who wonder how you measure anything longer than 6", it's very easy to just flip the ruler end-over-end until you get to the end of whatever it is that you're measuring.

Since it's made from stainless steel, the measurements -- and any lines drawn with it -- remain true and straight (unless you use it to beat on something) forever.

The only problem I've had with this great little ruler has been in keeping one for myself. I need to find out how Brian (the first reviewer) keeps his from growing legs. Apparently one of his three DID grow legs but he still has two of them which is much better than I've ever been able to manage. Mine have always seemed to walk off on their own within months of my getting a new one. Secretly, I'd always hoped that each new one that disappears had gone off to mate with the others that had disappeared before it and that one day I'd open a drawer and there would be a great family of them in there, but it's yet to happen. I guess it just goes to prove how badly "everyone" wants one -- they just can't wait to get one of their own.

I guess what I'm trying to say -- to sum this up -- it's the greatest, most useful, little ruler you'll ever own. Just buy more than one because everyone who sees yours is going to want one too and not everyone is going to be able to wait to get their own.

Beware - the product is different from the Product Description, which says says "... With 10MM & 100MM On 1 Side & 32" & 64" Readings On The Other Side".

However, both sides are graduated in inches -- not milimeters (MM) or centimeters. If you want some metric graduations, this ruler is not for you.
