Good Sprayer But Check Harness Attachment Before Using [Posted on 2007-05-17] I've rated the sprayer at four stars because the harness was not installed correctly at the factory, resulting in the fully filled sprayer to drop onto a concrete patio, shearing the pump handle off. After receiving the replacement part, I've used the sprayer on several occasions and it works exactly as I had hoped. The sprayer is received with the pump handle in an upright shipping configuration and can be adjusted to any angle that suits you for keeping the sprayer air pressure pumped up, while wearing the sprayer, in just a few seconds by pulling one clip and pulling the handle out from a splined shaft. The pump handle can also be installed on either side of the sprayer.
If you purchase this sprayer, please check the harness attachment before using to insure it is correct, as both back pack straps pulled out of the upper attach points prior to my first use. Each retaining pin incorporates a clip to keep the pin on the strap loop end. The incorrect installation had only this clip portion of the retaining pin and not the retaining pin itself going through the strap loop to hold the weight of the filled sprayer. This thin plastic clip cannot hold the strap in the attachment fitting when the sprayer is filled. The straps will pull out of the attach point, dropping around 80 pounds of sprayer and liquid to the ground.
Gilmour customer support was very responsive and apologetic when I called. They quickly shipped out the replacement part and said if I find anything else that doesn't work, they will replace the sprayer. My call was the second they had received about this problem, so there are likely to be other sprayers already in inventory that are like my sprayer. If you purchase the Gilmour BP4 sprayer check the upper retaining pins to insure the large part of the retaining pin is through the upper strap loop and not the pin's clip.
