Mustang Sally [Posted on 2006-10-24]

Well I've taken my time piecing the saw together, it's a pretty solid machine and I was on my own so I first built a mobile base around it, which made life sooo much easier on my back.
Read tons of complaints on getting the grease off, Guys WD40 comes off like butter and did not take that long.
I stand back and admire this beautiful machine, I use to have a craftsman's contractors saw that wanted to kill me every chance it got, it is not fun being fearful of one's table saw.
Once the new pride of my work shop was turned on, the reduction in decibels compared to my old contractor saw was so different that I was worried that something was wrong, This beauty cut like butter, pine, Ash, Oak it cut so smooth and so quietly, ripping and cross cutting is no longer a fearful journey. Now I'm patiently waiting for my Jointer and Workbench, all from Grizzly and the Makita Planer and I'm back in harmonious business.

The best cabinet saw for the $. [Posted on 2007-02-13]
This is my third grizzly product and yes I have Jet tools and others but I purchased the 1023 SLX with the cast iron router table and shop fox mobile base with extension. 40 years a woodworker for fun and profit. After spending a year making up my mind to step up from my contractor's saw and then weeks researching forums, I bought this one. Set up was very easy (with one person to help lift and hold) and the saw performed flawlessly from the first. Fit and finish are excellent. Instructions are very clear if one takes the time to read and not try to act intuitively too much. Cleaning the coatings on the metal surfaces took 20 minutes at the most with mineral spirits. Underneath was a gleaming dead on table.
Packing from the factory is not the best and a thorough inspection before signing the truckers slip is essential. Note every tear in the cardboard if you don't have the time to remove the crate and inspect the whole saw. The people from Grizzly are never more than a phone call away and really insist that you are satisfied. I would STRONGLY suggest calling their Tech line and discuss with them what you need. They will not pressure you to buy, answer any question and I find the attitude and tone to be user friendly. Call them first. There are specials going on all the time.
Power is unfailing. I ripped a three inch piece of red oak at an eight degree bevel with nary a hesitation. Ploughed a 3/4 inch dado in red oak with no wobble or lag.
Dust collection with my Penn State 1 and 1/2 hp collector is O.K. but that maybe a function of a small dust collector. Not a problem since there is no dust in the air after a cut but I can't help but feel something could be better. Again not a big deal.
For the money there is no better major piece out there. I can't imagine what the higher priced saws have that I would spend the extra 500 to 800 dollars for.

Defective table top [Posted on 2007-03-04]
I read all the review and decided to go with this saw. After cleaning the table I noticed pitting in the top. Also noticed machining lines. Very dissapointed at the Quality control on this unit. The fence was also messed up. They sent me a new side for the fence but wanted to send another saw to replace the unit I have.. After waiting 4 wks to get it now having to wait 4-6 wks more it just doesnt seem like a company I want to continue business with . I offered to send the top back in exchange for a replacement but that would require me to buy one up front wait for it to arrive and then send this one back for credit. Give me a break. They made the defective top and now they want me the customer to be out additional money to get it fixed. If I had it to do over I would buy something else. After buying this I have looked at different brands and the finish and quality of their table top far exceeds this one. I have yet to put a blade on it or even the fence so I cant comment on the performance. I also found loose parts down in the cabinet. They told be what they were for but I would have to take apart the unit to see if mine had them . They could be extra or they could be needed dont know until I pull the unit apart to see. I feel like I bought this thing at a flea market.

Couldn't Be More Pleased! [Posted on 2007-06-13]
I bought this table saw through Amazon about two weeks ago and couldn't be more happy. I was a little concerned about the shipping problems mentioned elsewhere, but mine came in perfect condition. Yea, it was shipped with a wood crate bottom with carboard/foam sides, but as long as the shipper is reasonably careful, this shouldn't be a problem. The table top was beautifully machined and is as good or better than the Jet or Powermatic table saws I saw at Rockler.

The motor is nice and powerful and the heigth and angle adjustments are smooth and accurate. The ShopFox fence is heavy duty and accurate. The table saw came almost perfectly aligned, and after about 1/2 hour I had the alignment dead on. Total setup time was about 2 hours including alignment. The only reservation I have is that the miter gauge is kind of chintz, but still decent. I still can't believe these guys can provide so much saw for under $1000. I bought a Bench Dog router table attachement at the same time for $300. Trust me, this a way better value than the Bench Dog router attachment which gets rave reviews. If you buy this saw, you won't be disappointed assuming it dosesn't get wacked during shipping. It's really nice to get a great deal on something.

Awesome Saw, Awesome Customer Service [Posted on 2008-03-14]
My 1023SL was delivered a week or so ago. The top and extension wings were, of course, slathered in grease. However, on the top of one of the extension wings was a stringy splotch of what looked like tar.

I cleaned everything off and found that the tar substance had stained the surface. No raised area, but a sizable stain nonetheless.

I emailed Griz customer service letting them know. They emailed me back asking for a picture. I send them digitial photos a week later and received a email telling me they were sorry and a new wing was on the way.

Excellent service as always.

The saw itself is easy to setup. The fence is tight and accurate with no adjustments required for me out of the box. Overall, the saw itself is tight and accurate.
