Precise tool [Posted on 2007-02-09] I have had the Incra sled for about 8 months and I can honestly say that it makes repetitive cuts simple, quick and accurate. I wish I had bought it sooner. I own several Incra products and I am very happy with all of them. This sled is a must have furniture making , woodturning(pen blanks), and any miter cuts that need to be done. Just plain awesome!!!
read the addendums [Posted on 2007-05-07] Great product, works well in all ways. Addendum sheets included in instructions which preempt the manual. I read the manual before assembly, but didn't read the one addendum, as it didn't seem relevant. However it was instructions to disassemble the unit and reassemble in reverse for a left tilting saw. I didn't do this, so when I cut the base plate, it is for a right tilt saw, so I can't make tilt cuts with it. However, cut this way, I can use the dado head which wouldn't have worked had the base been cut for a left tilt saw.
In short, read all the addendums. Plan how you will use it (tilt or dadoe cuts) before cutting the base.
Very, very accurate [Posted on 2007-07-19] I purchased the Miter 5000 about a month ago. I have built crosscut sleds before but they just don't compare to this unit. It was very easy to setup and the instructions are first class....easy to read and follow.
I am extremely happy with this unit and would purchase it again.
very good miter sled [Posted on 2007-11-11] The Incra5000 is definitely what it claims to be--a sturdy, precise, convenient miter sled. It is not much harder to use than the home-made one it is replacing, and will do more than cut off at a 90 degree angle, which is what my old one did. I concur with the other positive reviews, and really just want to make one observation that others seem not to have made. The unit is very versatile, with engineered solutions to most table saw idiosyncrasies. I never knew, for instance, that Craftsman miter slots were undersized. Fancy that. And Incra doesn't know (apparently) that Grizzly miter slots are not only randomly oversized (which they deal with) but also randomly deep. Mine, for instance, are nearly 1/8" deeper than they are supposed to be. And there is no way to use the t-slot fitting that comes with the Incra miter bar. Unless, of course, you have a milling machine. When you decide to fit your shop out with Grizzly hardware, the first machine you should purchase is a Grizzly milling machine. The G1005Z should do the job. After you get the mill, just buy every other Grizzly machine priced at appoximately $975 and you will be all set. You will be ready to make needed modifications to all the other Grizzly machines, or (as in this case) to the accessories you purchase for them.
operational prospective [Posted on 2007-12-21] It took a while to set the Miter5000 up. It assumes everyone has a right tilt blade, but has simple instructions on how to convert it to a left tilt blade. Once set up the accuracy was unbelievable compared to factory miter that came with my Rigid 10" table saw. When cutting outside corners for cabinet molding the stop made fast accurate repetitive cuts.
The only con making cuts on one side you can't use the fence support, if it is a large sheet of wood you can accomplish this by flipping the piece over and cutting the angle opposite.
