OK [Posted on 2007-12-24] Over all the saw is OK. The 4 things I son't like are first the hight adjustment dosn't lock in so as the saw runs the blade start to lower. So forget trying to cut a channel through a board consistantly. Two the degrees on the blade tilt are off up to 5 degrees. 3rd the miter gauge is crappy. Fourth is the worst, The fence is garbage. You will never get a trait cut out of this thing without a bunch of modification like I had to do. The fence is made out of thin metal and there is a lot of slop expecially on the far end. I had to jam some cardboard in there so the side wouldn't flex with pressure. Once you get that to stop flexing now the fence won't line up square to the blade when you lock it down, you will have to measure the distace from the blade to the fence on both sides every time you move the fence. After you get the fence square you will have to brace the back side with clamps so the fence dosen't slide away from the blade as you make your cut. Your can see how involved it gets to make 1 rip on a board. I know it's just a small table top saw and not very expensive but for a Jet it's rediculous.
Okay, buthas some annoying issues. [Posted on 2007-12-29] This saw is great for a bunch of things.
Ripping accurately is not one of them.
See, the fence is designed very cheaply, and unlike the fence on a Ridgid or Bosch or Dewalt tablesaw, does not stay square to the table.
In fact, it will happily clamp itself very misaligned (by about 3/8ths of an inch either way).
In addition, the miter gauges on this saw are non-standard. Mostly because everything in this saw appears to have been sized metricly (the arbor lock nut, for example, is 24mm, the adjustment nuts are 10mm, etc).
Most miter gauges are 3/8 by 3/4. The one on this saw is 10mm by 16mm.
You will not be able to find any aftermarket miter gauges or jigs that will work in these slots.
All this said, Jet's support is amazing. At first i figured the fence was just damaged in shipping. I called Jet, and they fedex'd me one without any questions (saturday delivery no less!). Sadly, the fence had the same problem (does not square to table, happily clamps misaligned).
Jet makes great contractor and cabinet saws. They have great support. I wish they had made a great benchtop saw, but unless your needs are very simple, this is not it.
If you want a cheap saw to rip flooring or something, this saw is fine.
If you plan to do any fine work at all, step up and buy something else.
Best bang for the buck, hands down [Posted on 2008-01-07] If you need a jobsite saw that won't break your back lugging it up a flight of stairs, this is the one for you. It's powerful, quiet, and lightweight. I'm very happy with it. I've paired it with the Bosch stand, with a plywood mount added, and it's awesome. I work alone, so I need my tools to be easily transported with one set of hands.
Jet Benchtop Table Saw [Posted on 2008-01-23] I purchased the Jet 708315BTC JBTS-10BT-3 10" saw after reading several reviews provided by Amazon. There were concerns expressed about the quality of the fence and the miter gauge, but I felt these could be reckoned with. I was not at home when the saw arrived, so I had no opportunity to inspect the package nor its contents. The shipping box was severely damaged and was an indication of damaged goods inside. The outfeed rest was bent beyond repair and the back plastic panel on the saw was fractured. Amazon generously offered a refund sufficient to replace these parts as an option to returning the saw to them. The saw's operation is another thing. The fence binds against the work and kickback has been a real problem. I cannot seem to get the fence properly aligned. The gap between the saw table and the blade access opening is too large and small pieces easily fall into the crack. The saw table appears to be too thin to accommodate a shop made zero clearance replacement. The miter gauge is not at all accurate and I will use it only for rough cutting. The saw also vibrates excessively and the blade has obvious significant runout. The blade was very inferior and I also replaced it. I purchased this saw to do some second floor work in some new construction I am doing and thought it would be easy to carry upstairs, which it is. However, the thing frightens me. I have two larger tablesaws (a contractor's saw and a large cabinet saw) and neither of these gives me the willies like this small Jet does. If I were in the market for a small tablesaw again I'd try a few out before purchasing one and I don't believe I'd purchase this particular Jet model unless there was absolutely no other option.
Jet Benchtop Table Saw [Posted on 2008-05-11] This is a good saw. It is very similar to the Makita and Hitachi saws that the guys I work with have had for years (and probably paid more for) - same type of rip fence, dimensions, quality, etc. Ignore the reviews that say the fence is bad, it's fine. No, it's not the great wall of China, but it locks just fine. I'd have no reservations recommending the Jet to any weekend diy or professional carpenter.
