Customer Reviews:

nice clamp - better than average [Posted on 2007-01-06]
I bought this clamp about 10 months ago. It is well made, easy to use, and very handy. Construction is more robust than other clamps of this nature such as Irwin Quick clamps, and it is only slightly heavier with somewhat greater clamping pressure.

I own many different brands and kinds of clamps and I've learned that there is no perfect clamp. Each has it's trade-offs.

This clamp is quick, one-handed, and will generally not mark or damage your work. It is great for holding things down while you drill, sand, saw or otherwise work on them. It's probably one of the most often used clamps in my shop.

If you are intending to glue-up items such as boxes, drawers, or cabinets, I suggest you purchase a few square-clamping cabinet clamps which are available from Bessey, Jorgensen, and others.

Also, stay open to other types of clamps that may offer advantages in difficult circumstances. Bessey KliKlamps are lightweight, and fit into spaces where others will not. They can be handy on ladders or in tight spaces. But they are not one-handed, which in some cases is a show-stopper.

Back to the Jorgenson ISD.
This is a wonderful clamp, very handy, quality build. I used to prefer my Irwin Quick clamps, but now when I need a one-handed clamp I find I reach for the Jorgensen ISD first.

Right tight [Posted on 2008-04-28]
I own a lot of clamps -- can a guy have too many? -- and had always favored the Irwin Bar Clamp. I bought one Jorgensen ISD Bar Clamp (why not?) and that one rather quickly became my "clamp of choice."

The comparable Irwins are "all right" but the Jorgensens, while similar in design, are clearly a more robust device. They grip tighter and the no-mar pressure pads stay on much better. The clamp feels heftier in the hand. To me, then, it is a superior choice offered at a comparable price.

An added benefit of the Jorgensen ISD bar clamp is that every clamp can be converted to a spreader. Further, the conversion to spreader is more easily accomplished than with competitive clamps. (And not all of the "other" clamps are convertible.)

With one exception, I own two of each of the Jorgensen clamps, 6 inches through 24 inches. The exception is this 6" clamp ... of which I now own four. (I would have expected the 12" to be my most used, but I found the 6" to be the one I most often reached for.)

This 6-inch clamp is every bit as strong as the 36-inch. The only difference between the two is the length of the bar ... and, well, the price.
