Small and Brilliant [Posted on 2008-11-25] You will never regret buying this. It run at only 55 watts when the water temperature goes below 35 F and turns itself off when the water temperature gets up to 40 F. Effective, effecient and with a great warrantee.
not enough when temp dropped to teens. [Posted on 2008-12-08] I've had this for a few weeks. It worked well when the temp was in the 20s and it was snowing. But this morning, after the temp had been in the teens overnight and a strong cold wind was blowing, I found the birdbath frozen except for about 1/4 inch around the heater. That wasn't enough space for the birds or squirrels to find the open water, and I don't think any animal without a bill could have made use of it if they'd noticed it.
Wonderful little gizmo, using to keep fountain running, little impact on electric bill. [Posted on 2008-12-15] Bought this in the summer (much cheaper then) and put it out about 2 months ago. We have our own "homemade" fountain which consists of a large pot that holds about 10 gallons of water and a shallow dish on top.
This product is able to keep the water liquid, combined with the moving water from the fountain. Night time temps have averaging about 15 F. The birds have been flocking to it.
The cord is very, very short, about a foot long. That is one drawback because you will need an outdoor extension cord. It is sturdy and does not get too warm. You can easily pick it up with your bare hands when it is running.
Did not notice the impact on the electric bill.
Works Great! [Posted on 2008-12-24] Works great! I like that it shuts off when the temperature is above freezing and it doesn't need to be on. Just wish the cord was longer rather than having to use an extension cord.
