Customer Reviews:

A good idea...I think [Posted on 2007-08-07]
Bought one of these for use on a 12" Delta compound miter saw. Also bought a B-18 mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is a piece of rather crudely bent and cut aluminum with a piece of high-tack 3M double-sided tape. On the other hand, it only costs $4.

I did not use the B-18 bracket. I fabricated my own from a piece of 1/16" thick steel (bent to a desired angle), taking advantage of a large flat area on the saw frame. I think this works better than the B-18 for my saw. To their credit, Laserkerf sent me another peice of the 3M tape on request.

Given how strong the bouble-sided tape is and the fact that there are limited adjustment capabilities for the laser once mounted, I went slowly in mounting my bracket and the laser housing. It went well, however, and the beam lines up with my test cut (used to fit the laser) well. I do have concerns, however, about the stability of the adjustments on the laser housing.

There are two, a hex screw for lateral adjustments and a plastic wheel under a rubber band for angular adjustments (of the laser beam, which is fan-shaped). Friction is all that secures the hex screw and the rubber band is all that secures the plastic wheel (you are even told to adjust the wheel through the rubber band). I have a hard time believing that neither adjustment will change under the influence of the operating saw. I hope I am wrong.

A push button switch and simple plastic battery box (2 AA)are also supplied, both with the 3M tape for mounting. Also a few (too short) wire ties. I used some of my own ties and the switch, battery box, and wires were neatly secured.

The beam is admirably narrow throughout its throw. It is too dim for use in daylight or even very bright indoor lighting. Plenty good enough for my shop, though.

Will be suspicious/careful about loss of settings when I first use it, but there have been quite a few positive reviews, so maybe I am being too suspicious. Hope so.

Anyway, should beat the heck out of the $30 lasers that mount on the saw arbor and only work when the blade is spinning.
