Customer Reviews:

The best mower that I've had... [Posted on 2008-04-08]
This is going to be a short review.
- The Honda engine starts on the first pull, it is quiet, it only slightly bogged down in high wet weeds, but even then only slightly.
- The bagging system is the easiest that I have used, no need to fiddle around with getting it on or off, it just comes off, and goes on as simply as can be.
- The sens-a-speed has so far done extreamly well, my one complaint is that it seems a bit difficult to pull backwards, however that my be user error, since I'm new to this mower.
- Lawn cutting, probably the most thourough cutting that I've seen on a lawn.
- Truely, this is by far the best mower that I have gotten, or used.

Good mower, but not a Honda [Posted on 2008-05-17]
I purchased the Lawn-Boy Insight Platinum when the self-propel on my 10 year old Honda Harmony stopped working. I was looking for a good mulching mower (I never bag), but did not want to buy the new Honda's due to the thumb control (read too many negative reviews of thumb fatigue).

The mower arrived quickly from Amazon. The box had a few indentations/tears, but the mower was in perfect condition. Surprisingly enough, there was no quart of oil included with the mower! After spending over $500 for a mower, you think they would include oil (like Toro does on its cheaper mowers). After adding gas, the mower started on the first pull.

I have used the mower about 6 times. The Sens-a-Speed took a few times to get used to. I had a lot of difficulty pulling the mower backwards for the first two times I used it (The self-propel was still engaged and I had to pick up the back wheels to pull the mower back). Once I figured out how to fully disengage the self-propel, I had no problems pulling the mower backwards. The Sens-a-Speed works well if the yard is relatively smooth - I have one area on the side of my house that is "rough" and the mower speed changes as I move over the bumps. The only other complaint about the Sens-a-Speed is that there is a cheap plastic bracket that pops off the handle if you push too hard or fast. This occurs frequently, although I think the bracket may be broken/defective. Overall, though, I like the Sens-a-Speed alot.

The mower mulches well, although not as well as my Honda did. The Honda's have a dual blade design that results in very fine grass clippings. The Lawn Boy doesn't leave clippings on your lawn (except occassionally when you change directions), but it does have larger clippings than the Honda (really noticeable when I see the clippings on my driveway or sidewalk). I am satisfied with the mulching ability, though.

There are several things that I really like about the mower:
1) The Honda motor
2) The speed of the self-propel (top speed is much faster than most mowers)
3) The wide range of mowing heights (height can be set higher for those times that the grass is too high to mow with most mowers).

Overall, I am happy with the purchase, but I would have bought a Honda HRX217VKA if it wasn't for the thumb control.

Lawnboy Mower [Posted on 2008-05-19]
The mower was shipped very quickly. When the box was opened I found the traction lever was broke. Lawnboy replaced the part very quickly. Mower started on the first pull.

Lawn-boy does it again [Posted on 2008-06-11]
My previous Lawn-boy was purchased in 1991. Total repairs included one muffler, two pull cords, three blades, one ignition module, and eight spark plugs. I hope that this model is as good. The unit arrived on time and was completely assembled. The Honda motor is strong and starts easily. The Sens-a Speed took about a half-hour to get use to. I have no problem with it now. The extra money spent for the aluminum deck is well worth it. I hope the Honda motor is as reliable as my old 2-cycle F-type motor. Here is to another 17 years of reliable, repair free mowing.

Broken out of the box & After the repair evaluation. [Posted on 2008-06-17]
Part I :
The Lawnboy 10795 was ordered 6-14-08, received 6-17-08 via UPS (FAST DELIVERY). I removed the unit from the box and noticed the handle and cable were dangling. I thought a little assembly was required, but upon further inspection found the plastic cable mount is broken. Furthermore, the missing plastic part from the cable mount is not in the box which means the part was shipped broken (as opposed to shipping damage).

I perceive the Lawnboy mower to be a quality product, but attention to detail appears to be missing. It's the little things like not centering the model # emblem "sticker" to the plastic shell, (2) tares in the foam handle, chipped paint in the front of the deck, frayed wire insulating sleeve, or the traces of lubricant across the housing that make me wonder if this mower was built on a Friday, 3 minutes before the end of the day. I did order a New unit rather than a lightly used... had to check the listing to make sure .

I will follow up once the mower is repaired.

Part II:
7-2-8, Mower has been repaired (11 business days). Toro/Lawnboy shipped the wrong part to the service center which added to the delay. Repair was $15.50 for labor; parts under warranty. Out of box price is now $529.99 + $15.50.

After adding gas and oil, the mower started on the first pull fairly effortlessly. The height adjustment of the wheels is wide (in clearly etched 1/2" increments). The Honda motor is a solid performer without labor as it cuts through the grass. Admittedly, I didn't have any high/wet grass to work with, but at a fast pace, the motor sounded as consistent as it did in idle.

As commented by others, the sens-a-speed takes a little getting use to. No difficulty in backing up as others warned, but handling the mower to keep a straight line take a little practice. At an advertised top speed of 5 mph, this mower hauls and should significantly decrease my cut time.

The Lawnboy 10795 has multiple cut modes (rear bag, mulch, and side shoot). I used the multch option for this evaluation and was pleased with the size of the clippings. All attachments (bag/side shoot) are intuitive and extremely easy to adjust.

Overall, I am satisfied with the Lawnboy 10795. The perceived poor workmanship drops the unit by 1 star, however, the ultimate performance of the machine was worth the investment (update 2 stars Part 1 rating to 4 out of 5 Stars overall).
