Lawnboy Selfpropelled Mower [Posted on 2008-05-09]
As other reviewers said, it's easy to start and to use. It does adjust to the speed you want to walk. And though it sounded heavy, it's much lighter than the Sears Craftsman I had before.
I'm not super strong, and find the rear wheels difficult to adjust for height, but at least it has better handles than my previous mower.
The one glitch was that it wasn't fully assembled, and the part that wasn't attached didn't have a detailed drawing in the manual, but luckily for me, I had a patient neighbor that psyched it out.
Overall, I'm pleased.

Lawn Boy Insight 10685 [Posted on 2008-05-09]
The Lawn Boy Insight 10685 is a great value. It starts really easy and the Sens-a-Speed propulsion system makes it feel like the mower is gliding easily in front of me as I walk. I can get the lawn mowed quick. The grass bagger is easily removed and replaced. The quick stow handle is a great feature too. There are other mowers with more bells and whistles, but this mower is a good solid mower and a good value.

A solid mower [Posted on 2008-05-09]
Our Lawn-Boy mower was purchased from Amazon.com last month for about 25% less than if purchased locally. The shipping container was beat up, but the mower was intact. Following the setup instructions was not a problem, and the mower started on the first pull, as it has on each subsequent start-up. No choke to fuss with, and no throttle control. Just start it up and it runs at the preset RPM. This mower has two features that, as far as I can tell, are unique. Most important is that mowing speed is controlled by how much pressure you apply to the handle bar. To move faster, simply apply a bit more pressure. Engine RPM is not affected, just walking speed. This seems to work fine, and quickly becomes intuitive. Pulling the mower backward requires a bit of effort, but I don't think it is more than any other brand. A second feature that I find very worthwhile is that it can be stowed in an area not much larger than the size of the mower's deck. Just step on a pedal and the handlebar is released, and can be moved to a vertical position, thus eliminating the need for a six foot long parking space.

I have just two minor complaints. First, the plastic grips on the height adjustment levers are flimsy. (Lawn-Boy sent replacements for two that were cracked on delivery.) Just be careful of these. Second, there is a plastic guard that hangs below the rear of the mower to keep things from flying out toward the operator. When the mower is pulled backward, this guard has a tendency to fold up under the deck. It quickly reverts to its normal position when the mower moves forward, but I worry about its longevity. I have the mower set at a three-inch level for my Florida grass, and it might not be a problem at a lower setting.

In summary, this mower seems to be a good, well thought-out design with a superior speed control system, very good maneuverability, excellent cutting, with little tinkering required.

A pleasure to prime thanks to Amazon Prime [Posted on 2008-05-13]
Ordered this mower (rated a "Best Buy" by the leading consumer magazine) from Amazon, and it arrived two days later (a screaming value if you have Prime). I had been purchasing a Sears mower practically every other year and am hopeful this one comes closer to going the distance. It's the most elaborate mower I've ever owned (never had a bag or self-propelling machine), but I had expected it to be smaller and lighter (especially after reading that the engine housing is plastic). In any case, so far so good (I can't see how the model with a Honda engine justifies the considerable extra expense). If the engine begins to fight me or the thing shows signs of wearing down, I'll change my rating. Even apart from the quality of the products, Sears service has been so slow, complicated and unreliable--whether I've ordered a product from my local store or their online store--that I'm tickled to have this one arrive at my front door hassle-free. Now if Amazon only sold ranges, washers and dryers, perhaps contracting with local installers (are you listening, Bezos?).

Great mower so far!! [Posted on 2008-05-14]
I have only used this mower once now, but it did a wonderful job on my yard. I have a yard thats big enough to almost consider a rider, and I was able to get it done in no time (and with very little effort) with this mower. Definatly a great machine so far.
