The Leatherman Juice XE6 pocket Mulit-Tool [Posted on 2006-09-22]
Why I like it: I've owned several multi-purpose tools, some very generic in name and cheap in quality. Alltrade is still a good one I have. I have different ones in "kits" that are in my house and vehicle. I decided to get the Leatherman Juice XE6 as the one I would carry on my person. First off, if you don't think you would ever use a multi-purpose tool, or think they are more gimick than gusto, you are kidding yourself. How often do you find yourself looking for a tool you don't have? Screwdriver, scissors, bottlecap opener, knife, corkscrew...the list goes on and on. I find myself using one of these every single day. It is perhaps the best gift to give anyone if you are out of ideas at Christmas or for a birthday.

The good: Aesthetics are never on the top of my list, but I have to admit that the storm gray color (you can also get it in purple) as well as its compact, sleek design make the XE6 at the top of its class. Its smaller than most multi-tools out there but still packs a punch in the hardware department: 16 seperate tools in all, which I'll just list at the bottom of my review, but touch on a few in the meantime. The nice thing is that they have created this particular line of multi-purpose tool so that you can access several of your more common tools without opening up the handle! Knife blades, file, and bottle can opener all are easily used without opening up the handle, as well as the scissors, which I think work extremely well considering how small they are.

The only flaw: The knife blades don't lock. This is a feature which often seperates multi-purpose tools when people are looking to purchasing them. However, considering that these small stainless steel blades are not going to be used in heavy duty situations in the first place, I don't think its an issue. Cutting small things, opening letters, taped boxes, or just any small task that is in need of a sharp blade makes the Juice worth its price. If you are needing to skin a bear, cut a large, nylon rope or do some heavy whittling, then of course a different kind of knife altogether that is made specifically for that purpose is probably what you need. These blades could easily contend with any of the small "old timer" type pocket knives that are out there, so don't let that scare you away! I find the four different screwdrivers come in very handy as well.

Overall: I am extremely pleased with my Leatherman XE6 Juice and have also included some additional pictures that show its size, scale, and an optional leather sheath for it in the customer images on this product. There are many of its kind out there, but given the fact this one has an extreme variety of practical tools at your disposal, its worth the price. It comes with a 25 Year Warranty which is nothing to sneeze at. Anodized aluminum handles, compact size, and anything you really need is all found here.

Leatherman is quality [Posted on 2007-06-10]
The Leatherman Juice XE6 is a great tool. Its slightly larger than I anticipated but is still small enough to carry around easily. The blades are razor sharp as I have found in other Leatherman tools I've owned and the pliers come in very handy for small jobs. This sure beats carrying around even a small toolbox for pliers, screwdrivers and the like. The one thing I do miss is having a nail file to clean out from under my nails after a grimy job, but I can always use the awl for that. Overall, this is a great tool to have on hand.

Slightly smaller multitool [Posted on 2007-07-12]
When I was looking for a multitool, after I determined which features I wanted, my choices were narrowed down to the Juice XE6 and the Wave. They are very similar in features. A couple of things the Juice doesn't have that the Wave does, locking blades and interchangeable bit drivers. I decided to go with the Juice for a couple of reasons. First, it is smaller. Second, I usually wear shorts without a belt when its hot and I wanted to be able to put the tool in a sheath and hook it onto my waistband. The sheath for the wave has a belt loop, more reliable but of little use without a belt. So far, I've had it a couple of months, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this tool to anyone looking for a multitool but who would like one a little smaller than the full size Leatherman tools.

This is a great multitool. 2 knives (straight and serrated), a saw, scissors, file, and much more. the design of the tool is fantastic. the only downside is that it is a little bit too heavy to carry around everywhere. This thing cant go in mesh shorts or other light pants. It is just too heavy. Still, a fantastic tool. I feel like I am ready for anything. I wish something would break so i could fix it.
