Customer Reviews:

Needs improvement [Posted on 2007-08-17]
First of all this isn't big at all. Some reviews sound like this is a 50 lb toolbox, it isn't. If you are a secretary used to lifting a nail file then this is huge. My issue with this item is it's quality, I was dissapointed. First of all I thought I was getting a USA made item. This is assembled in the USA of foreign made parts as told to me by Leatherman, this tool shouts China with it's poor fit & finish. The stainless outer case looks of poor quality & soft by the look of the grind marks. The fit is very poor & I understand that Leatherman can not hand make these. I knew going in that this would not be a Schrade. Schrade is a jewel compared to this. I did expect this to be of Leathermans all USA made quality, it isn't in my opinion. If you are someone who doesn't know any better, this is a good Multi Tool. If you compare this to Schrade or other quality USA made tools in my opinion this comes up way short. The features that this has are well thought out & the changeable saw blade is great. I wish that leatherman would use a better heat treated stainless outer case put these together so there aren't gaps & nicks between the end caps & the stainless side pieces. Sadly, this is maybe what it takes to stay in business these days. Most people will like this item, I didn't & anybody who knows knives or collects them won't even bother keeping this.

Leatherman [Posted on 2007-10-09]
I haven't heard any complaints about it from the co-worker I bought it for. He's a great guy but, I know he would tell me if he had any problems with it. When I need a new one, I'll buy this one for myself.

Great as always! [Posted on 2007-11-01]
The Leatherman Surge is a great tool as one would expect from leatherman. It works perfectly and the functions are well thought through! Just one star short of perfect because there was a little bit of rust on the pliers already when i unpacked the tool. Nothing too bad since it is only surface rust but still, i would expect it to be flawless. Great tool though, I take it with me wherever I go.

Right tool for the job [Posted on 2008-02-16]
I'm a rancher. I carry a multitool every waking hour. I've exercised the warranty on a Wave three times in three years. I've broken the detente that prevents the knife blades from bending beyond straight. I've broken the tips of the pliers pulling cotter pins, and I've chewed up the hard wire cutter. The Surge seems to do all these things and more with greater ease than the Wave, and it seems to be taking the day-to-day punishment. If not the fourth Wave is waiting as a backup.

As for the size aspect: I wear gloves in large size. The Surge is not too big for my hands and I can't imagine it'd be too big for medium size hands. IMO, frequent and continued use of the pliers with small hands could be tiring.

I depend on these things everyday. A Leatherman has never let me down even when they've broken. If you use one this much then I'd highly recommend the nylon sheath. The leather case and snap are not as convenient.

BTW, it may not be the perfect tool for the job, but when its the one that 's handy it gets the job done.

Leatherman Surge, hey I like it.  [Posted on 2008-05-09]
I have had a bunch of multi-tools and this one is, I think the best so far. It`s sturdy and well designed and the leather sheath will fit a Mag Lite Solitare in the side. Nifty. Some people are complaining that the Surge is too big and too heavy. To quote Mr. Miyagi " What are you, some kind of girl or something?" If this is too much for you to handle, start wearing some lacy undergarments you sissy. It`s a tool, it`s supposed to have some heft to it. You not using it to perform surgery. Would you prefer that it was cheap and flimsy? I think Leatherman did a pretty good job with this. So there. Put down the purse honey and get a Leatherman Surge. Mantlebaum, Mantlebaum!!
