Great live mouse trap! [Posted on 2006-12-08] Unlike some "live" mouse traps I've read about, this one cannot accidentally injure or kill the mouse. The mouse has to be all the way inside in order to trigger the door. The trigger is very sensitive and even the tiny (and amazingly cute!) little mice I caught couldn't help triggering the door. Probably seeds would have worked as bait, but I used toasted peanut butter, following advice I got on the web somewhere. Worked beautifully. My cute little former housemates are now living outside where they belong.
Who has the best mouse trap AND humane disposal to boot?? [Posted on 2007-03-05] I spent about an hour researching on Amazon for a live/humane mouse trap as well as another 45 minutes on Ebay. This was the result of doing research around my neighborhood after a little field mouse got trapped under my house in the process of replacing the underlining insulation.
I discovered that Tropical Smoothie Cafe uses glue traps whic do not effectively kill mice- at least until they chew through their legs, starve, or dehydrate to death first. Not to mention what an awful cry they make until they do pass!
My Hubby has heard stories about the snap trap not always killing the mice, just breaking their backs so same scenerio as above.
The poison bait takes hours for effect. We were told that they eat some of the bait, get thirsty and die upon drinking fluids with almost immediate death and little pain. I read that the same poison, if ingested by a dog can cause him to slowly bleed to death, only intervined by an injection of vitamin K.
We had the same mouse chewing the same bait trap for two nights. I could hear her chewing on it while I was in bed so that is why I chose to look up the live trap info.
I read up on all of the feedbacks and comments left by others -which thank yo everyone on here for your feedback, it really does help!
After checking out all of the live traps on Amazon, I found that this one had the least problems, easy to assemble, no mouse appendages being caught/cut off, no false alarm, we caught that little girl with in the first night, the trap closed while she was in there.
We think she was the only mouse in our house. After dropping her off to the nature preserve, we set up the trap again just incase she had any room mates = )
We will see what happens.
Call me a hippy- well I guess that will be military hippy, but mice can feel pain and experience suffering too, I feel better about disposing them this way. No stink, no mess, no pain-but all gain = )
If you are looking for a good humane trap,
HERE YOU GO !!!
Good Luck!
Excellent contraption [Posted on 2008-05-10] It does exactly what the makers say it will. Follow instructions and you will be free of mice. Set it carefully (it has a very sensitive release) and check it often. I took a plastic jar lid, put some tape on the bottom to affix it to the floor of the cage and Mickey and Minnie had plenty to drink. This trap is designed and manufactured well. My strong suggestion after you've gotten rid of the mice is to thoroughly clean the trap and put it back in its box to protect the delicate latch and release mechanism. Happy hunting!
Best trap out there [Posted on 2008-06-11] I bought this trap to catch chipmunks and it works great. I've set it eight times -- and got six chipmunks and one mouse. The other time rain drops tripped the door, but that's a good thing. The pressure plate is very sensitive, so even the slightest jarring by a mouse or chipmunk trips it. If you need to catch mice or chipmunks, this is the trap for you. It's well made and works as advertised.
No more mice! [Posted on 2008-06-25] I have a problem with killing an animal just because it was doing what it was born to do. So when I found that all of a sudden my garage was starting to look like a sound stage for Willard, I knew I needed to do something. The mice exercising their squatters rights in my garage were clever enough to grab anything in the tunnel-type of humane trap I had without getting caught, so I needed something better. After reading the reviews for several types of humane traps, I chose this one. I baited it with the bird seed that came with the trap and within a half hour, I found two field mice inside. I took the trap and drove to the local river walk and released them by the river, far away from houses. When I got back, I baited it again, this time with peanut butter and again, caught two mice. After relocating them to the same area I decided not to bait it again because it was getting late and I was done driving for the day. Each time I baited the trap, over the next day or so, I found critters in it. Finally, the captures slowed down and then ended. It's been a couple of weeks now and no more mice. I have heard rumors of little mice family reunions being held by the side of the river, but I can't substantiate them. Seriously, this is an awesome trap. It's easy to bait and you don't need a PHD to figure it out. Additionally, the vendor is top notch. My order went out immediately. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again...hopefully for something else the next time.Havahart 1020 Two Door Cage Trap for Mice and Rats 10 x 3 x 3
