Tough, but not ruggedized. [Posted on 2008-08-02]
While this tape measurer is definitely "Hi-Viz" and could probably be run over by a semi without cracking, it's not very outdoor friendly. Working in a sandy environment, this tape measurer after 4 weeks became hopelessly jammed, even after attempting to clean it, I could not fix it. I will probably have to disassemble and strip and re-grease it to get it back in working order. Obviously Lufkin makes no claims as to this measurer's reliability in a sandy situation, but they do seem to purport it's heavy-duty nature.

That said, this measurer would be perfectly fine for home use and probably just fine for light carpentering and construction, but anywhere with lots of dust or sand, and you may have major issues.
