Customer Reviews:

Great bang for the buck. Needs better support [Posted on 2006-12-17]
I am a road warrior and I finally got tired of carrying around so many wall warts, chargers, and cables. No matter how hard I tried to stay organized, everything ended up a tangled mess in my bag.

Enter the MFUEL World PAK 120. Throwing up to 120 amps, this will supply more than enough juice to power anything you might want. It can power one high power device like a laptop, and one low power device like a cell phone / game system / camera what have you.

The supplied power pods can also be used as retractable usb or ethernet cables. Awesome!

This device is meant to be a direct competitor to other universal chargers such as the iGo. The biggest benifit of the MFUEL is that it comes with a huge assortment of tips. Thier literature says MFUEL can power 90% of portable devices, and I would go so far as to say that out of the box thier tip assortment does a good job of approaching this.

The biggest con I have found is tip availability for devices that weren't included in the box. The MFUEL direct website is totally worthless. Prior to purchasing this, I sent an email to customer service with several questions. It was never answered. Also not a good sign.

I decided to buy it anyway. After getting it I wanted tips for my Sirius Stiletto and my Nintendo DS. I called customer service, and was told that they had DS tips, but not in stock. No idea when I might be able to get one either, call back in a few months. Another bad sign. No tips for the Stiletto, and they didn't know if they had plans to make one or not.

Customer support did tell me that they had a new, updated website that they were waiting for sign off to put into production. They also told me that there had been some snafu's with thier email that they were working to resolve.

If MFUEL does a better job supporting this product by answering emails, fixing thier website, and making tips available for more esoteric devices I think the MFUEL is a no-brainer. Go buy an iGO or similar solution and you would have to invest a sizable chunk of money just to get the tip assortment that comes standard with the MFUEL.

I got around the lack of tips for the DS and Stiletto by hacking my own out of some old USB cables and a soldering iron. This probably won't be a good option for most users though.

One very nice upgrade to the MFUEL is a retractable power cable. I purchased Amazon ASIN B0009T035E. One less cable in my bag!

The only real problem I've had is that MFUEL can power my Dell D610, but not charge the battery. This isn't MFUEL's fault, it's Dell's. Certain Dell laptops use proprietary technology and can only charge via Dell branded charger. SHAME ON YOU DELL!

I have been very happy so far with the MFUEL. Once I've used it for a few months and MFUEL rolls out thier new website I will update this review if I have any new information.

Not up to date or complete enough out of the box [Posted on 2007-07-19]
This product bills itself as a complete world traveler power adapter solution. Admittedly that's tough to achieve. And this product fails to achieve it.

I was hoping that this product would cover all my power needs for a recent trip. Unfortunately as it comes out-of-the-box it failed to fulfill my needs almost completely.

My experience, in spite of reading all the information on the box, was that it still didn't supply the right tips for the devices I need.

I have a Thinkpad T61. It says it supports the Thinkpad T series, but they are talking about Thinkpads made several years ago. Modern Thinkpads require a special order tip from them. So allow time for delivery.

It says it works with the iPod, but they mean the iPod Shuffle. But you can easily support the iPod with the standard iPod to USB cable that comes with the iPod and one of their USB tips.

Forget about any new Apple notebooks. I don't think they have any solution for that since Apple uses a proprietary magnetic technology.

I also need to charge digital camera batteries. Unfortunately this package has no solution for those systems. But I can use the supplied plug adapter in conjunction with each camera's charger. But I could have done that with a $5 adapter from Radio Shack.

In all this product attempts to solve a complex problem. It fails. If you check your laptop adapter you will see it probably supports 50-60Hz and 100V-240V. So these will work with a simple plug adapter from Radio Shack. If you are looking for a power supply that will work in the car and on an airplane you might pursue this product, but expect to special order the right tips for modern laptops.

As for low voltage products like cellphones, pda and mp3 players you are better off looking elsewhere. This device is overkill and incomplete for such devices.

Great idea - poor usability for money [Posted on 2007-09-02]
I bought this item because I have two laptops that I take with me and my family on trips (my husband and I both can work remotely, so we vacation and take our laptops with us). My hope was to charge my Compaq on trips (and use as a portable dvd player for kids on long trips)and power my Dell D610 (I know it doesn't charge it, but that's fine). The real problem is that it blows the fuse on my Lincolns LS whenever I try to plug either laptop in. Totally useless. Also no tips for my cell phone (T-Mobile MDA) or MP3 player (mobiblu 1500). So basically doesn't do me any good. I bought it sealed from ebay for $60 total price, so I'll probably get my money back by re-selling it, but that's hardly the point. Also emails to the company weren't returned.
