troubles with mk1070 [Posted on 2000-01-31] I have had difficulties with getting service in canada. The saw has a reasonable 1 year waranty , luckily as the first motor didnt last quite that long. The patented sliding table has been getting more and more sloppy as time passes. This is not a problem with straight cutting buy I use the 45 degree setting a lot and the sloppy table makes these cuts very inaccurate. This means re cuts and wasted time and materials. The little brother to this saw the 770mk is more accurate at cutting on a 45 degree.Though obviously less powerfull and slower the small table and small blade save time and tile.THe smaller motor lasts longer too.Dont ask for replacement parts. They prefer selling full motors. This saw needs more perfecting for the hefty price. If you want to use the 45 degree feature get a 770 and a larger less expensive standard straight cut saw, if your busy.
Wish I got the MK-101 Pro24 [Posted on 2003-03-29] I bought this saw instead of the MK-101 Pro 24 for a few reasons. The listed height wsa 18" and would fit nicely in my trailer shelves (when I received the saw it is more like 23" tall). It is lighter than the 101-Pro24. And it has the built-in beveling feature. The problem with the beveling feature is that to go from a 90' to a 45' you have to loosen a bolt that presses against the aluminum motor carrier. This bolt just basically digs into the aluminum every time you use it, but what is worse is that the bolt is not lined up with the hinge axis that the motor pivots on. What this means is that if you tighten the bolt in the 90' position the pressure of the bolt pushes against the motor carrier and you can actually see the blade get slightly out of square with the table. Then if you move it to the 45' and tighten the bolt it moves the motor carrier again but in a slightly different direction. So there really is no way to go from the 90' to the 45' settings with any hope of accuracy. I purchased a Trojan Tile cart for the saw so that I could set it on end to save space. When I put the saw back horizontal a bunch of oil came pouring out the motor gear assy. The MK-101 saws have a nice quiet Baldwin motor. But the motor on this saw is LOUD! I really don't see how you could leave this thing running, I'm sure you will also need hearing protection just from the sound of the motor alone. The beveling feature on the 770 saw is nicely done, I wish they would have made the 1070 the same saw.
