WONDER SAW [Posted on 2001-06-12]
Hello all-I am a weekend woodworkerwho bought this saw second hand at a garage sale approxamately seven years ago.Since that time I have sawn everything from Rock Maple to Mahogany. It cuts every single 90 or miter dead on.Combined with a Freud Ultimate Cutoff blade it is unstoppable.

Mr Ed [Posted on 2002-07-28]
I bought this saw about 5 years ago and have had nothing but good service out of it. It has helped me build 2 boats and is still in use and going strong. This is a simple miter saw, but for what it is designed for it is a great saw. Nothing has broken and the only thing I replaced was the blade. I installed a good 80 tooth miter blade and have had cuts so smooth they don't need to be sanded. The blade that came with it would not do that, but it will cut 2x4's all day long with no problem. Nothing really bad to say about this saw, but it is limited in the miters you can cut with it. If you need to do a compound miter, you will have to make two cuts, but other then that it is the best saw I have had. For the money you will not be able to find anything better.

Lacks precision - no calibration adjustment [Posted on 2002-12-05]
Can't recommend this saw for other than rough carpentry. Mine doesn't cut accurately to the preset detents and can't be calibrated as detents are factory milled. I would't buy another miter saw that did not have adjustable calibration. It is a real pain when making 2 mating 45 degree cuts in expensive stock and you put them together and get a 87.5 degree corner!

Another good one from Makita [Posted on 2003-12-06]
I've been a carpenter for over 30 years learning trim with a miter box and back saw. I've used nearly every miter saw, and the 1030n is the best. The fence is tall enough for medium crown (4 1/4)and the fence slot is close enough that small pieces are not blown out on the floor. If you do this for a living this is it...less than 25 lbs, and has a top handle. Easy to carry on the job from floor to floor, but what a work horse. No tool does it all, for what it does do it is in a field all by itself. Accuracy is perfect out of the box no adjustment necessary. It is smooth and flawless.

Complaint: It is not made in the USA. I buy only American made unless I have no choice. Listen Makita had it not had the good feel I would have looked elsewhere.I have nothing against other people, but I have too many friends out of work to justify buying foreign. To you out of work I am sorry.

Mikita Reliability [Posted on 2004-04-20]
I've had this saw for over 10 years and it still runs and cuts like a champ. Nothing fancy, but not much to go wrong either.
I've never had a problem with it. Dust bag doesn't do much for it but you can stick a vacuum attachment on the connection.

I have several Mikita tools and all have served me well.
