Don't believe everything you read like I did [Posted on 2007-09-29] My unit arrived in fine condition (box was not damaged either) as some report. I also don't have any problem with the wheels like some reviewers, but I rarely move the unit. My biggest beefs are this unit is extraordinarily loud, to the point where I now use it as little as possible. The tank is small too, and the unit cycles on constantly, although that's not an issue I can fault. It's also requires oil, and remembering to check and top off is a bother, although a small one. To recap, I can't complain about the unit's tank size or the fact that it requires oil--I knew what I was buying--but those are considerations if you're considering buying an AC, nonetheless. It seems awfully well made, which is really about all the good I can say about it. I regret buying it--I was swayed in part by the reviews here and I was not as informed about these things as I thought. A bit wiser and sadder, I don't think most of the reviewers know what they're talking about and are merely looking to rationalize their purchase.
Great Compressor [Posted on 2007-11-19] I have had this comppressor over a year and have had no problems with it. It is built and designed well. I wish it was little quiter but I have heard worse. All direct drive compressors are on the loud side.
A Fine Home Compressor [Posted on 2007-12-05] I've been using this compressor for 1 year now. Though some of the early reviews mentioned shipping and wheel damage, I had no such experience. Like many of the newer reviews, it arrived in fine shape so I suspect that the packaging has evolved over time.
Initially I bought it to work on a truck with some serious air-sucking impact wrenches. If you're in a closed garage, it can be loud if you're close. Generally it is located across the garage from me, and I just let a 3/8" air hose lie across the garage floor.
Performance has always been spectacular. I suspect I will never need another compressor.
Specs [Posted on 2008-04-10] What's with the 3 Horsepower rating? 13.8 Amps at 120 Volts = 1656 Watts. 1656 Watts x 0.00134 = 2.22 Horsepower. There are always some losses at the motor so it is impossible to get more than 2 horsepower optimistically. Why the misleading spec? Makes me wonder what else is misleading about the specs? 1.5 - 2 HP is good for a portable. Why not call it for what it is?
Very Satisfied [Posted on 2008-05-03] The cardboard package was ripped but everything was ok. I have a small compressor without a tank and this Makita is quieter! I don't know if they changed wheels but mine were fine. Haven't really tested it completely, but so far so good! Thanks, Makita
