Low end timers [Posted on 2007-06-18] We bought two and both ceased functioning after one season. The first failure came the first week while pulling out the hose line to setup a sprinkler. I pulled out the slack, and without pulling very hard on the line, the thin plastic neck snapped, causing the hose assembly to fall to the ground. The second unit began intermittently working after about four months of service under ginger treatment. At the end of the season the once-loud time-bomb tick-tock faded and it no longer interrupted the water flow. Counting on a timer to work and it not working is obviously worse than never relying on one to begin with.
Great Compact Timer [Posted on 2007-08-29] I've used mechanical timers before. As soon as this one arrived I connected and began using immediately. I liked its compact size. I noticed after turning the dial to the desired time sequence, in order to change it or quit, you just wind the top counter clockwise to zero or the arrow indicator. I bought two of these and have used them in conjunction with my 10 year old one daily for about 3 weeks. It works reliably as expected. I couldn't be more pleased with the price and the fast delivery.
Breaks after 3 weeks, twice! [Posted on 2007-10-04] The first one I bought cracked (and started spraying water everywhere) after about 3 weeks of use. I emailed Melnor, and they shipped me a replacement. The second one cracked and started spraying water in (about) 3 weeks too! It cracked it a different place. Save your money. Do not buy this product.
A Must Have Item [Posted on 2007-12-15] Ordered two and they have served me well all summer. Such a pleasure to have the water go off after I leave for work and not have to worry about overwatering or being late.
Do not buy [Posted on 2008-06-12] I thought it was pretty basic and would last but I was wrong. After 3 months of use the dial now spins freely and nothing can be set. Also when it was operable it shuts the water off in a very abrupt way causing a quick bang through my water pipes. Other timers should last longer although this one was not expensive.
