Frank Dayton [Posted on 2007-01-03] This sprinkler was ordered to replace a high volume sprinkler that wore out from our high water pressure. This unit handled it just fine. Well thought out. Well designed. I was a little nervous about it being plastic. Not a worry. Money well spent.
Junk. [Posted on 2007-05-27] Ray "Red Devil" hit the nail right on the head. This sprinkler stalls all the time, but for me it didn't matter what I set the flow rate at. It quits oscillating at full throttle and my water pressure is not low. I have two and they behave the same.
I like the concept. It's wonderfully easy to adjust compared to the traditional oscillating sprinklers, but this product is engineered badly. One has to wonder if they ever do any design verification testing on their products. They certainly couldn't have done much on this piece of junk.
I liked it so much, I ordered 2 more [Posted on 2007-07-23] Personally, I prefer this sprinkler to others I have used. I have 2 Craftsman sprinklers that just did not hold up. I ordered 2 more of these because I like the fact that you can adjust the width of the area that you are watering. I recommend it. I have 12 different areas in my yard that I have to water when it doesn't rain so I am the watering queen. I will say that it wasn't particularly long lasting and it did tend to stick in one position after I used it for a while
Two different Melnor models, two failures -- won't buy this brand again [Posted on 2008-04-26] I purchased this sprinkler and was pleased at the ability to adjust the coverage of the spray. That aspect is quite nice, but unfortunately that does you no good if the thing stops oscillating. After a few weeks of perfect performance, it just stopped oscillating and stayed in one fixed position. I see from many other reviews here that I am not the only person who has had this problem. Since some people say their sprinklers work fine, I can only assume this is a case of very inconsistent workmanship in their manufacturing. They definitely need to do some quality control. I hadn't yet read these reviews when I went to buy a second Melnor sprinkler to replace the first -- I assumed it was some random malfunction with my item. I went with Melnor again, but a slightly different model number. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, and this time after just one day's use! At least this time the sprinkler is new enough that I still have the receipt and box. I will certainly be returning this and buying a sprinkler by another company (and telling everyone I know not to risk buying from Melnor). I give them credit for having a good idea in their design, but if they can't deliver consistent results do you really want to risk spending your money on their products? If you decide to buy this anyway, I recommend that you keep your receipts and the product packaging so that you can get your money back. If you're one of the people who doesn't get a malfunctioning sprinkler, lucky you.
Oscillating feature doesn't work [Posted on 2008-04-26] This sprinkler stopped oscillating the second time I used it. Now I have a sprinkler that can only water one part of the lawn at a time. Not what I was looking for. When I looked online I found that this is a known problem with Melnor sprinklers. Buyer beware!
