Customer Reviews:

Like Driving in Europe [Posted on 2003-12-10]
WEll, after reading All these great reviews i decided to TRY it out for myself. YES, i was impressed with the proformance and im' able to live with the rocker switch issue, it reminds me much like driving in Europe (driving left)eventually you get use to it, Someday im' going "customize" this unit by "reversing" the switch wires. When i purchase "cordless" equipment one of the most important factors of quality is how a manufacture designs the battery locking device. I can assure you that because of this YOU will someday find yourself adding another "way" to use duct tape. IF you remove the battery, you'll find that the "hook/tab" is as thin as a credit card and about the same material, a thin plastic. I dont' abuse my tools by no means, but on the occassional "fall", you would expect for the unit to withstand some knocking around. I hate spending money on what i believe is a good product, especially after doing my homework and finding out that I discovered the "WEAK" link. sorry to inform you all (if you haven't found out for yourselves YET) that the battery release thumb tabs are really a BAD design for such a nice cordless. :( Notice where the "hook" (male) engages into the "body" (female) section, you will see that contact surface is only a fraction of an inch, i guess more like 1/32th. Order one of these only IF you have a roll of duct tape in your garage, you'll need it. I guess this was the reason "Metabo" did'nt design for the battery to sit in a charger (battery is a rear plug in type) so that you would only have to UNdo the duct tape once to change out the BAD battery with the spare. Happy, well you know....

A cordless screwdriver with serious design flaws [Posted on 2004-01-16]
This screwdriver has three serious flaws.

First, it is a bulky handful. You need to have an immense hand to hold it easily.

Second, the switch is ill placed and awkward to use.

Third, and most important, it has only one speed and that is top speed. So you spend much of your time trying to reset the blade (Phillips or not) in the head of the screw after the blade pops out. And it pops out because the Metabo only operates at full speed. The best way to use it is to preset the screw with a regular screwdriver and then use the Metabo.

But that's a waste of time.

I'd return mine for a refund if I could find the receipt.

So don't buy it. Look instead at the Dewalt. Same price, better features.

A Great Tool [Posted on 2004-12-12]
I almost did not buy this after the DRIVING in EUROPE review, what a mistake that would have been. The tabs on the battery are recessed in a concave and are pretty well protected from damage and the plastic is industrial grade. It would require some extraordinary bad luck to break them and they hold very securely.

The driver has great power and is very smooth operating, the precision concentricity, is noticeable. I have owned other cordless screwdrivers and this is the best of them so far, second was my Blue Point. This little powerhouse can drive a 3" screw into pine. I could never have gotten close with my others. As for the fellow who was going to buy the DeWalt, I looked at it and even though I love DeWalt, the screwdriver is too big and clumsy for what I use a screwdriver for. The things the DeWalt would be used for are better handled by my Drill Driver.

Is this perfect, no. I have big hands and the Metabo is big. Making the switch vertical might be better, would not know until I tried it. If you feel it is too big for your hand you can always choke up on it a little and operate the switch with your middle finger. As for the plug in charger it is good quality, but I would prefer a drop in. By the way this is available from Metabo, in the form of an adapter and one of their full size chargers, which will charge faster and give the battery longer service life.

I like this tool, and like any tool, the user adapts to it the longer it is used. The clutch tames the power for lighter work, and the power is there if you need it. The build quality keeps the bit turning in a circle instead of a loose wobbling movement. This makes it easier to use, as the screw does not wobble either. The speed of this driver is fine for me, only the DeWalt and the Panasonic offer varying speeds anyway and the Panasonic is a two speed. I intend to be happy with this tool for some time to come, but everyone looks for different things in their tools. If you are interested in this driver give it a try, you wont be sorry.

very slow, but convenient [Posted on 2005-03-14]
it's a realy slow driver, but it has applications for those really tight areas. it does exactly what i expected it to do and meets my requirements. it's a little expensive but when you need it, it works. torque is good and it is strong, just soooo slow

Quality but Slow [Posted on 2005-09-28]
It was not what I was expecting... slow, and not the easiest to hold, and if oyu hold the way you think you need to hold it the swicth is backwards.
