Only the best [Posted on 2008-04-19] I'm only a casual user and have no business owning tools this expensive and heavy duty. However, I can afford it and like how the lithium-ion retains a charge for a long period of time between uses. My 8 year old Dewalt 9.6 and 14.4 cordless drills were great tools but this package is a huge update in so many ways. I also purchased the Milwaukee radio, impact wrench and right angle drill....all amazing and worth every penny. Lastly, I added the new compact Milwaukee V18 drill for the light weight jobs- at just four pounds with battery, it's the perfect compliment to the heavier duty V28 drill. You get what you pay for and Amazon's prices are unbeatable.
heavy duty? not really [Posted on 2008-04-19] Just bought the V28 set and put it to work right away. The batteries are good but not as good as all the hype. The 1/2 hammer drill was used to drill 5/8 " holes in a concrete pad with brand new Bosch bit and it started spinning grease out of the chuck shaft. Not a little, but a lot. The drill lost reverse and would only turn clockwise. I contacted two Milwaukee service centers for warranty work since the drill was only a couple of days old. Both shops were nice enough but one was too busy to give me the attention I needed on the tool. I mailed the tool to a shop 75 miles away and they said they would replace the switch. The repairer kept blowing off the grease thing. I would have expected more from a warranty on a very expensive tool the was only used one day. It should have been replaced or at least thoughly checked out. Once I get it back, been two weeks now, I hope it's as good as new. Maybe spend the money on different set?
The Ferrari of Power Tools [Posted on 2008-04-19] Milwaukee pretty much invented the Lithium Ion Battery for power tools. I can leave a tool lying around for months... then pick it up and the batteries will still work like new. And these tools are powerful! I would defintely recommend these tools to anyone looking for a great set of power tools.
milwaukee v28 is excellent [Posted on 2008-04-21] these tools have more power than any other cordless tools. I cut 100 decking boards on one battery and still had power left. the circular saw has the power of a corded one. well worth the money.
28 volt power madness [Posted on 2008-05-03] I waited for a conciderable amount of time before making a decision to buy this Milwaukee combo kit. As a life long Milwaukee power tool user I looked at all the other options that were provided by Makita, DeWalt, Porter-Cable, Hilti... I was not disapointed with my purchase in the least. Compared to my worm drive circular saw the battery powered unit is so easy to use, much lighter and rip cuts so well I may sell my corded one because it won't be getting much use. The Sawzall also works really well once again making me look twice at what I can get for corded version, if sold. The Litium Ion batteries charge up fast and are very powerful but I think that Milwaukee has it right when they suggest to charge te batteries overnight one a week to make sure that they remain conditioned to maintain full all day lasting power on the job sites. One last thing to mention, the hammer drill is also fabulous if not a little heavy when using it inverted above your frequently during the day, or driving screws, but as usual Milwaukee made it eavy duty and bomb proof. These are not your average Do It Yourselfers tools. Truly professional grade! Keeping that in mind, I would not trade the power of these tools for a litle bit of a workout that they offer because of the additional weight of the batteries. Also I think that the individual boxes that are offered on Amazon is a good investment when carrying the bag with all the blades, bits and additional tools becomes difficult to organize. I'm really happy with this combo... but I think that's obvious by now.
