Great saw, but handle needs work [Posted on 2002-06-21]
The quality, smoothness, power and orbital aggressiveness are all they're cracked up to be. The complaint about cutting-line visibility is legitimate, but not a deal-breaker -- you just have to lean a bit farther forward. My one real gripe is with the handle: As you can see from a picture of the saw, there's a long trigger, and then the handle's bottom side angles steeply upward. The natural balance point is the trigger, and there's not much to grip behind it, with the result that it's difficult to pick this saw up without turning it on. I think I'm going to add something to fill in the thin rear part of the handle so that it's straighter, like the DeWalt. It's worth the modification to keep this saw.
Repair problem after 15 months [Posted on 2002-07-04]
I bought this item... March 29th 2001. I used it for cutting 3/4" MDF. My last project was cutting 3/8" threaded rod, which was pretty soft. The unit was only used on weekends, never overloaded (it made light work of everything it did cut) and worked well for the most part. Without much explanation, the switch module packed up inbetween cuts of the threaded rod (i.e. it was not in use when it gave out, rather coming up to speed and suddenly it stopped working). Got the usual run around at the repair shop - called Milwaukee and they agreed to cover cost of parts... if I payed the labor... which I agreed to do as I have been without the unit for 30 days now. I would not recommend this unit again - the motor it great, lots of power but you have to wonder why pay the extra dollars if components like the switch are going to give out with moderate use.

Read all the comments and reviews on jig saws in this price range and chose the Milwaukee 6266. Guess I had been using a cheap Black and Decker so long I had forgotten what a quality saw was supposed to do. This thing cuts like crazy! And the quick blade change feature is great. Power to spare. Easy to use. Well balanced. Milwaukee has found a new buyer. I'm ordering other Milwaukee tools because of the quality of the Jig Saw.
Better than Bosch [Posted on 2002-08-29]
The Milwaukee 6266 is made in Germany (well made)...... an AEG (also an Atlas-Copco company) dressed in Milwaukee red. Far easier blade changes than the Bosch and I think its a smoother saw. No problems with sightlines for me as some reviewers have mentioned- just as good as previously owned Bosch and PC jigsaws. If your in the market for a jigsaw, don't overlook this one. A step above the Bosch, imho. Highly recommended.
A Solid, Professional Tool [Posted on 2002-09-04]
I chose this saw over the Bosch jig saw. Milwaukee's, simple solid quick blade change feature is typical of this tool's performance and controls - solid, strong, serious. The only (minor) complaint I have thus far is the plastic case - it's HUGE and bulky for no apparent reason. A case 1/2-2/3 the size would be a lot more useful.
