Within a few weeks of using this, it broke. The gears are plastic and simply cannot stand up to reeling in a 100 ft hose across a flat yard. When rewinding the hose, the plastic teeth sheered off of the gear wheel.

I'm sending mine back, not for a replacement, but for a refund. Considering this product commands a premium price, the quality of the product is significantly poor.

I wanted something that would look good near my front door and be easy to use. This product does both. I've had mine for 3 years and it still works well. A friend has had one for 4 years. My only very minor complaint is that the hose doesn't rewind well at a sharp angle. Am buying one this year (2007) for a Christmas present.

I had read about this No Crank Hose system in the Wall Street Journal and it sounded too good to be true. We have a small deck that leads to our garden and when the hose was coiled up, it seemed to take up huge amounts of space. We we tripping over it and it didn't look very attractive, not to mention, it was a pain to coil up everytime we used it. I had seen the No Crank Country 100' system at my local nursery for 270.00!!! and thought that was really unreasonable. Came home did a google search, saw it on Amazon for 169.00, shipping included!!! The only problem I had was leakage from the faucet and the place on the No Crank where my hose connected. I resolved that simply by putting washers in both connections and it works perfectly now! Make sure that the end of the hose doesn't get caught on anything when you are reeling it in--the hydraulic power is very strong and could rip your machine off the hinges!!

It's great not having to stand on my head to rewind the hose. The exterior looks very classy in my courtyard. The first time I put it in the rewind mode it almost startled me, what a Hoot. My kids actually argue over who gets to put the hose away, Now that... is a definate recommendation!
