Amazing! [Posted on 2007-06-27] This is the kind of portable tool that you dream of. Light weight, as much power as a 110v drill! The chuck is a dream to operate. Clutch works perfectly. Charger and two batteries included is sweet.
I've been using this drill for several weeks now, and I rave to my friends that I'll never buy another NiCad powered tool again.
It *is* a little pricey though...
Excellent tool [Posted on 2007-10-16] I have purchased more tools than I can remember from Amazon, and have never been compelled to waste my time writing a review. However, this tool deserves a good review. I am no stranger to Panasonic drills. I have owned both the 12v and the 15.6v NiMh drills for several years, and use them daily in my cabinet shop. Both of these drills are far superior to any of the competition that I have owned (Bosch, Makita, and especially DeWalt XPR). I needed another drill, so naturally I opted to purchase a Panasonic. What I ended up with was the perfect combination of both drills. The great things about the Panasonic EY7440 include the following.
Extremely light weight
Almost as much power as the 15.6v NiMh (Good for forstner bits)
Ten hours of fairly extensive use per battery charge
Small enough to fit in tight spots
Quick battery charge (irrelevant because you won't be able to run down
the battery before the spare is charged)
The best variable speed trigger on the market
Only one complaint. The handle is too small for anyone with large hands. The diameter of the grip is fine, but the distance from the trigger to the battery housing is too short. Not as comfortable as its older models are.
Panasonic 14.4 [Posted on 2008-01-14] I use the Panasonic 15.6 screw guns in my business , driving 1-1/2 screws all day long into wood. GREAT SCREW GUNS! I recommend them to anyone looking for a top quality tool. Then , out comes the 14.4 screw gun. As other Panasonic users say "Panasonic , you did it again". The 14.4 doesn't have the wallop the 15.6 has in high range , yet still enough power to get the job done useing high range. Low range has lots of power. Again , as other Panasonic users have said , the trade off of a little less power , as compared to the added features of the 14.4 are worth it to me , and only me. My help will continue to use the 15.6. I say this because the 15.6 is a real work horse , and the 14.4 is $100.00 more than the cost of a 15.6.
Perfect tool for my needs! [Posted on 2008-05-17] I have been using the 15.6v Panasonic EY6432GQKW for years now.
Almost the power of an 18v without the bulk and size. I am in Special FX for Feature Films and Commercials and this is the perfect tool for my needs. I am currently on my second 15.6v. The first I used for two years and upgraded to the "newer" style 15.6v. Zero problems, good battery life, small form factor...the perfect drill I thought.
Then comes this EY7440LN2S. 14.4v LiIon batteries, lighter and smaller. Since I was thinking of getting another 15.6v any way, I went ahead and tried this one. WOW! Smaller in every dimension, almost as much power as the 15.6 and so much lighter in use! The power of the 15.6v in a package smaller than a lot of 12v models from other manufacturers. Perfection!
Much better balance, sits even steadier on the base and did I mention lighter? Its a major difference switching back and forth between the 15.6v and this new 14.4v. I have been using both for the past few days and the old one feels like a brick in comparison.
I have smaller hands and this one fits like a glove. Much more ergonomic grip shape. Coupled with the lighter weight, it feels so much steadier and much better balanced in use.
The only downgrade? The old one had a clip under the battery for a screw tip. Very, very handy in my line of work. The new one does not. Minor? Yes, but annoying.
I give this one a 99/100.
