Do not under estimate its power [Posted on 2000-08-04] Many people will see 7/8 horse and write it off immediately. I have a monster 3 1/4 horse router that is great on a router table, however it is heavy, awkward, and inaccurate when used free hand. As a Carpenter, I will end up using this tool far more because of its size and weight for day to day use. You can use it for edging and laminate trimming and because of the full size base its great for all around use. It has plenty of power for nearly all applications. And also something else you don't see these days, its made of metal.
Long lasting router [Posted on 2000-11-13] I have owned a model 100 for 30 years. (back when it was Rockwell). The router was used to finish edges on tables and doors and a quite a lot of countertop laminate work. Today it is used mostly for cutting dovetails and has held up very well. The only parts that have been replaced was the collet and the power switch and this was over 10 years ago.
A Nice Little Router [Posted on 2001-12-20] This router is perfect for use of dovetail and other small bits. It uses a 1/4" collet. Compared to other models, it is light in weight and easy to use. It uses the #1001 base which is inter-changeable with the model 690. Has plenty of power for its size. If you don't like to change collets, and can afford to purchase an extra router, this model will certainly do the trick.
Tough Little Router [Posted on 2006-12-11] I have two 100s, one 40 and one nearly 20 years old. They'll last forever if you change the brushes now and then. A good choice for light to medium duty general routing work and an exellent choice for a beginner to learn with.
The Mighty Mouse! [Posted on 2008-02-22] My father purchased this router in 1963 and used it in his cabinet shop until I inherited it in 1965. It has been the most outstanding power tool that I have ever owned. The brushes have been periodically replaced and last year a new power cord was installed but otherwise zero failures. I have four other routers but the model 100 is the most used. It performs 75% of all my bench level routing work and is very easy to handle in a large variety of routing operations. The excellent useable power, light weight and smooth performance in combination with the robust (all metal) design and long life make this tool a true asset to the pro woodworker or dedicated home craftsman.
