Shop hard for price [Posted on 2006-07-11]
I found this 3700L (10 inch) in Costco stores last week for $149 to $179. I was really looking for a 12" saw as my first Miter saw, but for $149, I figured I couldn't lose- so I bought the 3700L- So, check price carefully, and also note that there are lots of RECONDITIONED 3700L units on the market. I trust they are properly labeled. I can't wait to set up and try this saw!

Just what I need [Posted on 2006-08-17]
I love my projects around the house and needed a miter saw for cutting various lumber and moulding. After reading many reviews I chose this saw. The saw cuts exactly like I need it to, although I have not done any _really_ precise work with it.

I like the extended fence and the lasers are great. The lasers are also a pain, which is why I only gave this saw 4 stars.

LASER TROUBLE: I did some various shop projects with this saw but noticed that the laser to the right of the kerf was getting lighter and lighter. Eventually it almost completely disappeared. I was distraught. By no means did I use this saw over and above its intended usage and already it was broken?? I initially thought the laser calibration was off and perhaps striking the blade so I removed the cover and began adjusting everything I could to no avail. _Although it looked clean_, I blew compressed air under the blade guard onto the laser thinking that it might be dirty. Still barely a light on the table. The laser was indeed on, so there was no break in the wiring. The light just did not make it down to the table. Eventually I took a very long cotton swab pulled the blade guard back (power to the saw unplugged of course!!) and rubbed it on the laser lens and BAM, A WONDERFULLY BRIGHT laser shone down!

Moral of the story: IF your laser has gradually gone lighter and lighter, _PHYSICALLY_ clean the lens. Blown air will not do!

3700L Great saw, priced right. [Posted on 2007-04-19]
I am very pleased with the Porter Cable 3700L. I have used it to do crown mouldings, various trim work, as well as using it for a chop saw for dimensional lumber. The saw is very accurate and the lasers are a great help.
I think the miter adjustment locking feature is much better than the Dewalt design. When securing the knob on the Dewalt it seems to cause the table to deflect, which would introduce an error. Porter Cable uses a neat bellcrank arangement to securely clamp the table without causing it to deflect.

The only negatives about the saw are,

1, I wish there was safety interlock to oprerate the trigger switch, I have had a couple of unexpected saw starts when aligning the blade to the wood, now that I am aware of this, I keep clear of switch completely unless I am making the actual cut.

2, The Riptide blade provided with the saw seems unsuitable for trim mouldings, it leaves alot of rough edges. Maybe I will try it as a ripping blade on my table saw.

When you add everything up, the Porter Cable 3700L is a great value, but do consider buying a quality fine tooth blade for finish work.

MAINTAIN YOUR TOOLS, IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!! [Posted on 2007-06-25]
I bought the P/C 3700L twinlaser miter saw in 2004. We have built a fence and a deck, just to name a few projects. I am not a contractor, but I feel that this saw can handle anything you throw at it, within it's designed purpose. I have not had any laser problems as of yet. Almost any tool will need to be cleaned, tuned and adjusted. It's all in the owner's manual. If you buy tools to be a do-it-yourselfer, than you should consider doing the maintenance and/or repairs yourself. I am tired of relying on store returns or warranty repairs. These will usually lead to long waiting periods or out of stock items. This is still a great saw.

Porter Cable 3700 Laser Miter Saw [Posted on 2008-01-29]
I purchase this item some time ago. Worked great for a couple of years. I started having laser problems then the laser went out. I replaced the laser switch and it is as good as new. I beleive the replacement switch is available from Porter Cable/Dewalt at least it is listed on their web site. Cost is around $5.00. I purchased one from Mouser Electronics P/N 611-D105J12S205QA. Switch is easily removed with a screwdriver and the wires are plug in type. Hope this helps someone.
