I have always used Porter-Cable products until they started to produce their tools overseas. My charger also burned out and had to buy another. The way to remedy this situation is to charge the battery then unplug the charger. Once this drill takes a crap, I'll be looking to replace my cordless with ANYTHING but Porter-Cable!

Love Porter Cable tools but their battery chargers leave much to be desired. It is not really a smart charger. You can not leave it on indefinatly. Battery heats up & in my case melted. This is a potential fire problem. Most decent chargers have an on switch & they automaticlly shut off when the battery is fully charged.

Is your drill underpowered? [Posted on 2008-01-22]
This is not a product for everyone, but if you have a Porter Cable battery drill or saw that seems too lose power too quickly, the charger may be your problem. I love my drill and saw but started having to recharge often and, at times, the charger would say it was a bad batttery. After having it checked out at a repair shop, the batteries and charger were pronounced OK but I still lost power very quickly and needed multiple batteries. I was frustrated enough to consider buying a new drill but tried the charger first. My drill is back!!

Beleive or not this is the e-mail I got back from Porter-Cable customer service when I asked them if they thought my charger should have lasted more than three years. I had to buy the thing anyway to keep using the tool (which is a good one). Like the vast majority of the others here, I found the original charger (and apparently the new one) are, inexplicably, j-u-n-k. Take the vow of no more PC cordless tools with me now.
